Mamalan Opens in Shoreditch

Forget the saying three is the magic number, it’s definitely five. Well, it is for Ning Ma who is opening the fifth Mamalan restaurant tomorrow in Shoreditch. Following on from her supper clubs and sites across London, the next installment is also inspired by her grandfather’s market stall in Beijing and will serve up the comforting, hearty Northern Chinese street food that Ning remembers him selling. Things are kept intimate with space for just 24 guests and the Beijing street food market feel is kept alive with 28 Chinese birdcages decking out the space. Classic dishes make a return to […]

Limited-Edition Michelin-Starred Ice Cream at Gelupo

If you’re even vaguely interested in food and drink you’ll know that last week saw the announcement of the 2017 batch of Michelin stars. The ultimate mark of excellence for a restaurant, 8 precious stars were handed out to London restaurants including Trinity, The Ninth and The Ritz as well as a handful of Bib Gourmands awarded to restaurants at lower price points offering a more casual dining experience. Still, we can’t help thinking that some of our favourites will never achieve Michelin status… until now. Gelupo, the gelateria in Soho from the duo behind Bocca di Lupo, is already […]

Just because we no longer have our toes out every day and our skin isn’t quite as exposed as it was in summer doesn’t mean you should skip the pedicures and pampering completely. Just replace the spray tan with a mud mask and settle in to Mondrian London’s brand new SPA Social event. The monthly event sits somewhere in between girls night, Friday drinks and an after-work gym session; it’s socialising meets a great night in. The highlight of any party is, more often than not, the food. The Next Avocado Pop-Up: Avolution

Today in The Handbook HQ three of us had avocado for lunch because we, like Meredith Collective, know that avocados are the best food in the world. And this autumn, pop-up connoisseur Meredith Collective is back with another avocado themed pop-up following the success of the Avo-pop up. This time there is even more avocado than before! Fucina: Strong Italian Cooking

Fucina is a strong name. The kind of name that helps you conjure up scenes of wonderfully cured meats, the yellowest homemade pasta and tables generally piled high with plates of amazing food. Just as well then that Fucina is indeed an Italian restaurant, opening its (big, heavy, wooden) doors in Marylebone for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Chef Stefano Stecca will be behind the scenes at Fucina, plating up authentic Italian food inspired by Stefano’s childhood. Traditional cooking methods will of course be a key part of making Fucina great – pasta will be hand-rolled, huge cuts of meat will […]

Ready to work on Her Majesty’s Secret Service?   From Quaglino’s with love comes a fizz and canapé reception where you’ll get to meet the other guests just as if you’re sat round a poker table at Casino Royale. The murder mystery will then be played in between the three-course meal, served up courtesy of the gold fingers of Executive Head Chef Mickael Weiss. You’ll need a golden eye and thunderballs of steel to unearth the deadly […]

8 London Restaurants That Have Just Won a Michelin Star

Yesterday was one of the most important days in the restaurant industry; the results of the UK Michelin Guide were announced. Now, more than a century since the first Michelin Guide was published, the notoriously hard to attain (and even harder to maintain) stars have once more been sprinkled sparingly out across the UK. Heston will be pleased The Fat Duck regained its three stars after a stint Down Under, whilst London saw a spate of new stars given out to London stalwarts as well as a handful of new talent. The trend for understated, unfussy dining was recognised in two new Hackney restaurants […]

Boma Bridge Restaurant Opening

Boma Restaurants is one of many groups opening up venues in London, however, they have a focus that sets them apart. Apart from exclusively operating in the South West, Boma zones in on a concept that these days seems all too rare; neighbourhood.  Just like its two sibling restaurants, Boma Bridge will be built upon neighbourly values; focus on local hospitality and building relationships with everyone around and involved in the business. The same approach goes for the food. The person leading the food will be executive chef Jack Reynolds. Applying his agricultural and pastry background, he’s designed a menu […]
