Cocktail Masterclasses With a Michelin-Starred Twist

Everyone loves a masterclass. Even more so when it involves cocktail making because cocktail making obviously leads to cocktail drinking. Wild Honey, the Michelin-starred Mayfair restaurant known for its wood-panelled dining area and outstanding food (the Michelin star does hint at that), is hosting a new series of intimate cocktail masterclasses, The Magnificent 7, so-called because there is only room for 7 cocktail-loving guests to be seated at the bar. The classes will be held every Monday evening to make the start of the week that little bit more bearable, commencing Monday 5th September. Ready to share his knowledge, resident […]

Daawat Review – What We Thought

New? Daawat is well established but had a make-over last year to freshen up its look. Where? Strand Palace Hotel, 372 Strand, WC2R 0JJ, www.strandpalacehotel.co.uk On the menu: We were there to try out the new summer menu which featured items from the Tandoori mixed grill, sea bass with traditional Keralan flavours and classic chicken tikka masala. First Impressions: I’ve been to Daawat before and was eager to return, situated in Strand Palace hotel, the restaurant was already quite busy when we arrived – I assumed at least some of them must have been staying at the hotel. The Look: It has a modern, clean […]

BabaBoom: Bring on the Kebabs

We might not always admit it but if there is one food that we sometime just have to indulge in, it’s a kebab. Yes they might have the reputation of being the sort of food you get on a night out or at some motorway layby but now there is a new breed of kebab restaurant in London which is all about fast, healthy food, with big Middle Eastern flavours. And the next one to open is BabaBoom in Battersea. Opening next week, by Travis, Eve and Jono who have 30 years of experience between them, it’ll be taking Palomar, […]

Eneko at One Aldwych Opens

When a chef has 3 Michelin Stars to their name you can’t help but expect great things. What about if their restaurant is ranked 16th in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants? How about if we add in that their bistro also has a Michelin Bib Gourmand? You’re going to expect something rather wonderful. We’re talking about chef Eneko Atxa (his restaurant is Azurmendi Bilbao and his bistrot is  Bistró Prêt  À  Porter) who has joined forces with Kostas  Sfaltos, the general manager of One Aldwych, to create Eneko at One Aldwych. Where? 25 Gillingham Street, Victoria, SW1V 1HN First Impressions: Our welcome was friendly and we were led through to a seat by the window which I would request to sit at again. Absolutely packed on the Thursday evening we went, you’d be disappointed had you not booked although if you were willing to wait ten minutes or so I’m sure they’d find space […]

Breakfast at Albion Clerkenwell Review – What We Thought

New? Albion opened its doors in Shoreditch in 2009 and has since opened in three more locations. Albion Clerkenwell is the largest of the restaurants with an even bigger menu. Where? 63 Clerkenwell Road, Clerkenwell, EC1M 5NP www.albion-uk.london On the Menu: This menu is quintessentially British, especially the breakfast menu: beans on toast, hollandaise, porridge, baps, Marmite – you name it. Divided up into sections of how each dish is prepared, choose from hot, on toast, baps, eggs, and my favourite, interlopers, which included avocado and poached eggs on toast or the hangover recovery sandwich. There is also an option to order from The Bakery, an in-house bakery […]
