This weekend is filled with food and beer and lots of it. Are we complaining? Certainly not. Start with cookie shots from Dominique Ansel’s bakery, party with Jack Daniels, get yourself a free beer from Camden Town Brewery, celebrate World Sake Day and finish with STK London’s Champagne brunch party.
Supposedly the home of the museli-munching Guardian readers: for one of London’s most desirable locations, Islington has a funny reputation. But N1 has so much to offer. From the full-on fun of Upper Street – which has more bars and restaurants than any other street in Britain – to the charming canals and back-alleys, Islington has everything on its doorstep. Here’s our guide to living like a local in Islington – and getting the most from one of London’s quirkiest postcodes.
BBQ connoisseur Neil Rankin is back with his next restaurant, temper (without a capital T), a South American inspired fire barbecue restaurant which will be opening in Soho, aptly on Bonfire Night. Neil has teamed up with managing director, Sam Lee to open temper which is all about serving up cooked cuts of meat from the whole animal (it’s going to be big on sustainability and creating minimal waste), tempered for optimal flavour, served with vegetable plates. Specialist breeds include beer fed Dexter, Longhorn and Highland beef, Saddleback Middle White, Old Spot and Berkshire pork as well as lamb, goat […]
New? Transitioning from Reffetorio, Diciannove has been open for just over a year after taking over from the previous restaurant. Where? Crown Plaza Hotel, 19 New Bridge Street, Blackfriars, EC4V 6DB www.diciannove19.com First Impressions: We left the bustling streets of Blackfriars and were immediately greeted with a warmth that couldn’t be more different to the hordes of suits outside. The Look: Dominated by an impressive three-tiered light that was made up of letterpress trays and a canary yellow bar, the restaurant is made up of booths, bar seats and smaller tables. That said, the parquet flooring, leather chairs and laminated tables did give it […]
Next month will see the opening of Little Smoke, the next restaurant from Noble Inns, the team behind Smokehouse, The Pig and Butcher and The Princess of Shoreditch and once again it’s all about the meat. Sourcing their ingredients from small independent farmers, the restaurant will specialise in whole native and rare breed animals. Made up of beef, lamb and pork dishes, the menu will change daily depending on what has been butchered that day – the animals will all be butchered on-site at Smokehouse before being roasted, smoked and grilled at Little Smoke. So you can expect to find […]
When turning your mind to Syria, it’s easy to forget against the backdrop of destruction and devastation that buried among the rubble is a culture. To celebrate just an aspect of that which is so close to being lost, Instagrammer Clerkenwell Boy, NEXTGen London, SUITCASE Magazine and Gemma Bell PR have lined up a host of top chefs and restaurateurs to create and serve dishes inspired by Syrian cuisine all in aid of Unicef’s Children of Syria fund. Brunswick House, Caravan, Chick’n’Sours and The Diary are among the restaurants involved whilst Fergus Henderson, Nuno Mendes, Yotam Ottolenghi, Sami Tamimi, José […]
The establishing of R Chocolate London is much like the tempering of chocolate itself. The pristine, evocative marble slab represents the location and premises where R Chocolate will stand. Situated on the iconic Ebury Street in Belgravia, the chocolatier and patisserie will rub shoulders with world-renowned luxury brands. The provocative pouring of the chocolate of course is symbolic of the indulgence and opulence of what is going to take place inside those four walls. R Chocolate is the brainchild of self-confessed chocaholic Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, producer Jessica de Rothschild and successful entrepreneur Ben Elliot. And it is with one […]
The weekend is in sight! You just have two days to get through and then you can walk out that door on Friday evening, straight into a weekend packed with cocktails, bottomless brunches, culture (we’ve got two art events and an exhibition this weekend) and classic dining. Oh weekend we’ve missed you!
One of the best days of the year? Shrove Tuesday or you might know it as pancake day. The one day in the year when it is perfectly legitimate to eat 10 pancakes in one go and no one bats an eyelid. Sure you can do it another day of the year, but it doesn’t have the same feeling of accomplishment, you just look greedy. What you should do when you want to eat pancakes, is go to Where the Pancakes Are, which, this month opens its first permanent restaurant in Flat Iron Square. Created by Patricia Trijbit, the fluffy, […]
Whilst gin is still having its moment of fame, vodka is sitting quietly in the background, doing its own thing, just biding its time. Our/Vodka is a project by Pernod Ricard which sees a global vodka being made by local producers. It’s already launched in Berlin, Detroit, Seattle and Amsterdam. It’s now here in London and the guys leading the way are Neil Chivers who comes from a music background and Clive Watson the name behind restaurant, Blixen and co-founder of The Riding House Café, Village East and the Garrison. We caught up with them to talk working with friends, […]
