10 of the Chicest Garden Rooms

Bear with us – we know it’s still freezing outside, but by ‘garden rooms’ we mean heated, indoor and with no risk of being pooed on, pecked at or rained on. You may be surprised at how many orangeries/atriums/greenhouses London boasts, or even more so at all the different names used to describe them, but you won’t be surprised by the relaxed feel these charming rooms possess. From the shabby chic to the downright romantic (and everything in between) here are 10 of the best London has to offer.

The Landmark Review – What We Thought

For me, a trip to Marylebone on a Friday night usually entails navigating crowds of commuters and grabbing an overpriced sandwich before cramming myself onto an oversubscribed train. Not last Friday though, instead I swapped London’s busiest railway stations for one of its most luxurious hotels.  The Landmark London is situated mere metres away from the station and slap bang on the Marylebone road (one of the most polluted in the UK apparently), but all this seems a million miles away once you step into the polished foyer of the Landmark. What strikes you first is the sheer size of […]

Som Saa: From Pop-up to Permanent

Som saa: It’s the classic modern day rags to riches story, a Dick Whittington tale if you will. Founded by Andy Oliver, Tom George and Mark Dobbie, it started life off as pop-up in Peckham, hosting a year-long residency at Climpson’s Arch in London Fields, crowdfunding £700,000 in three days and now they are topping it off with a permanent home in a former fabric warehouse on Commercial Street. Som saas are a rare Thai citrus fruit and old style Thai cooking and lesser known dishes will be the order of the day at the restaurant. Whereas during their residency […]

Chucs Opens in Notting Hill

When you think Notting Hill several things come to mind, Hugh Grant obviously, the carnival, Portobello market, the sorts of houses we dream about, boutique shops and of course places to brunch. And Chucs is bringing the last two together with the opening of its second boutique and restaurant. You’ll already find them on Dover Street selling their 1950s inspired menswear collection alongside their restaurant and now they are heading to Westbourne Grove. On the top floor you’ll find the menswear collection, but what we’re really interested in is the restaurant and café on the garden level. Reflecting the Italian […]

London’s Most Instagrammable Restaurants

A recent study found London to be the most Instagrammed capital city in the world – take that, Paris! Whilst Hyde Park nabs the top spot, there are certainly restaurants that we consider worthy of a ‘gram, be it a dish plated up like a work of art or particularly cool interior design or just a good old brunch. Here is our pick of the most photogenic destinations in London that will have you reaching for you phone. After all if it isn’t caught on camera, did it really happen?

Strand Palace Hotel Welcomes Sacred Cafe

The Strand has welcomed a new independent coffee brand to its well trodden streets, offering strong competition up against the selection in McDonalds/Starbucks/Pret/Caffe Nero on the same stretch of London. Discerning coffee drinkers (some may say coffee snobs… yep, that’s us) will no longer have to rely on the office coffee machine or walking a bit further into Covent Garden for a decent cup; New Zealand-inspired Sacred Cafe has just opened their forth spot (alongside existing cafes just off Carnaby Street, in Westfield and in Highbury), in the 4-star Strand Palace Hotel. Coffee is served alongside teas (with holistic properties) […]

Ladies Night at Bar20

Bar20, most often frequented by city slickers, is soon to see another type of slick when it hosts a one-off beauty evening (for women only) on Tuesday 23rd February, hosted by skin specialist Dr Askari. He is a qualified surgeon, former director of sk:n, the UK’s largest chain of laser clinics, founder of ASKINOLOGY and now, for one night only, your very own skin guru. Why is it that Boots is an Aladdin’s cave and yet impossible-to-navigate at the same time? When presented with hundreds of skincare products there is not a sales assistant in sight and yet, when we are […]

Tiny Leaf Review – what we thought

For a newly launched restaurant, Tiny Leaf is already proving popular with locals as it was packed by the time we had finished our meal. Perhaps it is the vegetarian restaurant’s ethos of zero food waste that the public is finding so appealing with food donated from local suppliers and bigger establishments such as Planet Organic. The menu therefore will change daily depending on what is surplus especially the Market Plate which is a daily market selection. The menu is limited with only four starters and four mains with vague descriptions of the ingredients rather than an explanation of the […]

Hakkasan’s Chinese New Year Review – What We Thought

Monday was Chinese New Year, the Year of the Monkey, a chance to celebrate, wealth, health and happiness. So we headed off in search of the best Chinese fare to mark this occasion and as you might remember we told you about Hakkasan’s Chinese New Year menu and so after drinks we headed off to Bruton Street to try it out. Walking down the stairs in Hakkasan is like heading into an underground lair that you might find in James Bond. It’s seductive, sophisticated, it’s the sort of place you walk into and instantly feel that you’re more attractive (thank […]
