Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea review – what we thought

Alice in Wonderland is one of the most well-known tales and while other venues have tried their hand at creating a themed afternoon tea, nowhere else quite has the quirk factor that the Sanderson London does. As soon as I walk through the door I am greeted by a hot red lips sofa and I wonder how my flatmate would feel if I inconspicuously added it to our living room. The foyer smells like a Jo Malone candle and although none of the décor has any kind of consistency, it still has an air of glamour of being high-end. We […]

One-O-One Review – What We Thought

With an enviable position in Knightsbridge and claims that they are the ‘best fish restaurant in London’ we had high hopes for One-O-One. And despite an excellent starter and pudding what happened for the next couple of hours however, left us questioning such claims. Part of the The Park Tower Knightsbridge, a Luxury Collection Hotel, the restaurant felt neither part of the hotel nor its own restaurant; we arrived to an empty reception, after a while a waiter saw us standing there and showed us through to the restaurant, but it felt as if we had put them out. Inside […]

German Gymnasium Opens

We all know that dilemma, do you go to the gym or do you join your friends and go out? Well now you can do both at once. Well sort of. You can eat in a gym, well an old gym. Hey if you can convince yourself that you are going to the gym then we aren’t going to judge you. Said restaurant is opening in the German Gymnasium, built in 1865 it was Britain’s first purpose-built gym and even hosted the first ever indoor events of the 1866 Olympic Games. Now it is reopening as a 447-cover complex which […]

Royal Marines Boxing Bout at Café Royal

If our birthday falls midweek we can justify going for dinner with close friends on the night and then, come the weekend, drinks and a night out with the extended friendship group. If you’re the Queen you also have two celebrations; her actual birthday on 21st April and her official birthday in June. They have royalty in their name so it comes at no surprise that Café Royal are celebrating their 150th anniversary with a whole series of glitzy events. For one night only, specially selected members of the Royal Marines will jump in a specially built ring for a […]

Ibérica Review – What We Thought

I have a new favourite restaurant. An adventurous diner, I love all types of cuisine but also believe that there is a time and a place for a lot of restaurants – sometimes you want formality, sometimes candlelit intimacy and sometimes only liveliness will do. Somehow, Ibérica fits into all these categories – I’m actually struggling to think of an occasion that it wouldn’t be appropriate for. Visiting the brand spanking new Victoria restaurant, Ibérica’s fifth in London (there’s also one in Manchester), on a Friday evening I thought it may have been a bit of a corporate environment, especially […]

Bandol Review – What We Thought

It came about halfway through our meal at Bandol: just as my succulent rack of lamb touched down on our table: that moment when you realise everything is going to be ok. When you realise that the excellence running from the amuse bouche through to the main courses is going to continue all the way to the coffee and petit fours. You’re in good hands. You can relax. Ultimately, you go to a good restaurant for the same reason you go to a top-draw football match or to the opera: to experience pure, top-of-their-game excellence. Bandol, a French restaurant inspired […]
