Holborn Dining Room Review – what we thought

Holborn Dining Room was buzzing when we arrived at 6pm, normally a slow time for restaurants with things kicking off in the proceeding hours, but not here. For such a large venue, the tables were mostly filled with people even sitting around the bar. The vibe here is relaxed but smart and seems like a popular choice with workers in the surrounding Holborn area. The lighting is dim and a large Christmas tree is up giving everything a festive feel, I find it easy to settle in and get right down to ordering cocktails. My Garden of Eden cocktail was […]

Shuang Shuang To Open

Let’s start the morning with a little history lesson. Did you know that the humble dish, hot pot has over a 1000 years history in China? It’s believe that it originated in Mongolia before spreading to China during the Tang Dynasty, and it has now found itself in Chinatown on the corner of Shaftesbury Avenue and Wardour Street. Shuang Shuang, which opens in January, is the work of Fan Sundravorakul who ran a collection of restaurants in Thailand before moving to London. Occupying an Old Victorian building and split across two floors it is London’s first specialist hot pot restaurant. […]

Celebrities with their own fashion lines

We’ve all seen celebrities owning the red carpet, perfectly coiffed and dressed as though they just strutted off the catwalk but we know that someone else has most likely dressed them so when celebrities launch fashion lines it is always met some scepticism.  But then you have the likes of Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen who absolutely smash any reservations with their ludicrously successful fashion lines: Olsenboye, a kids fashion line; Elizabeth and James, targeted towards a mid-market; and The Row, a high-end line – whose combined worth is a cool $1 billion. Other success stories include the likes of Justin Timberlake, […]

Red Dog Saloon Review – What We Thought

Red Dog Saloon the American BBQ restaurant has recently moved into Berwick Street, their third London site and having heard various reports of great burgers and good milkshakes we decided to see for ourselves.   Stepping inside you’ll find dark wooden panelled walls covered in black and white photos of American outlaws and cowboys and skulls of cattle. It’s relaxed and informal and for the size of the restaurant they were able to fit a lot of tables in – good for getting lots of covers in and not having to queue, bad for the size of the tables which […]

The Orange Elephant Review – What We Thought

Having too much choice isn’t a blessing it’s a curse. So a restaurant with no menu is the answer to this dilemma surely – no choice means everyone is happy or in it together, depending on how it goes. You also think the chef must be very confident in their dish if that is all they’re going to serve. Well that is exactly what is happening over at recently opened Orange Elephant;  claiming on their website to be ‘Master of Steak’ that’s what they’re serving up – just steak. The Fulham Road restaurant is sleek with long mirrors at precarious […]
