Bardou Express Blow Dry Bar Launches

Bardou Express Blow Dry Bar has recently launched their London pop-up located in the exclusive neighbourhood of Kensington where they specialise in blow dries. We just hosted our annual Christmas party and obviously wanted to look our finest as we downed copious amounts of alcohol in celebration of the festive season so turned to Bardou for some much needed coiffing. We had meticulously picked out our outfits and done our best with our make-up but when it comes to hair, and doing something other than straightening or harassing with curlers, we were pretty clueless – luckily the girls at Bardou […]

Frontier Room Review – What We Thought

Behind a curtain, nestled at the back of BBQ joint Q Grill is Frontier Room. While the two may be attached, the latter is a stark contrast to the light and buzzing atmosphere of the Camden restaurant. When the curtain is pulled back the restaurant is transformed into a dimly lit space which could easily be mistaken for a speakeasy. Light fixtures on the walls and candles on the table are the only substantial illumination in the room giving a very warm, comfortable atmosphere while providing enough light to easily read menus, converse and avoid banging into tables. Hidden behind […]

Foodies Festival Christmas

One huge room filled with lots of stall holders means only one thing in our eyes; free tasters. The annual Foodies Festival is returning cloaked in red and sprinkled with snow, for the festive season and if walking around sampling chutneys, mince pies and Christmas cake sounds like an ideal way to spend a day then get yourself to Brick Lane’s Truman Brewery the weekend of 27th – 29th November. 150 award-winning artisan producers, gin masterclasses in the London Gin Theatre and demos by celebrity chefs make up the UK’s biggest food and drink festival. A champagne ski bar presents […]

Soho Ski Terrace Winter Rooftop

Soho Sky Terrace is swapping the ‘y’ for an ‘i’ and transforming into a Ski Terrace for Winter Overlooking the iconic black and white building of Liberty’s, the terrace has always been a destination for Soho drinking but now even more so – you can just about see the twinkly lights of Carnaby Street below and the lights on Regent Street hide just behind. The terrace itself has a vintage feel to it – retro ski posters adorn the walls and skis are propped up around the edge of the room. Snuggly fur and velvet throws on the sofas are […]

Aladino’s Review – What We Thought

If, like me, Egyptian food is something you’ve never tried, think of it as a fusion of the best authentic Greek, Italian, Turkish and Lebanese foods, all delivered with the hearty passion that traditional family recipes bring with them. Open an Alexandrian restaurant in Kensington and you know it will be pretty slick. Crystal chandeliers hang in the main area of the restaurant and Egyptian music played gently in the background. At 7.30pm on a Friday we were surprised to be the only diners, but come 8pm the other diners rolled in. In the meantime we were, at one point, attended […]

The Ninth Opens

With over twenty years’ experience in the industry and tutored by Michael Roux Jnr, Marco Pierre White and Eric Chavot it was only going to be a matter of time before chef Jun Tanaka opened his own restaurant. That time is now. Opening today, The Ninth, which just so happens to the ninth restaurant Jun has worked in (see what he did there?) will be setting up shop in Fitzrovia on Charlotte Street. Serving up French-Mediterranean fuss-free dishes, it’ll be open Monday to Saturday serving lunch and dinner. The dishes are designed so that they are surprisingly light – which […]

Get Your Skates on at the Tower of London

Another day, another ice rink. This time it’s a classic, at one of London’s most iconic landmarks – the Tower of London. Open 7 days a week from 10am, the rink is located in the dry moat, where the famous sea of poppies lay last year. As with any physical activity we do in the freezing outdoors, warming refreshments post-skate are as important as the actual skating. Luckily for us, the Tower of London has us covered. Food is from gourmet pie shop The Pie Man on Chelsea Green, who understand that this is no time for fancy menus, just […]

The South Pole Saloon

This might come as a controversy but rumour has it that the elves aren’t happy with Father Christmas. Every year he gets all the credit for bringing the presents, he’s the one on Christmas cards and in story books – but who are the real heroes here? The elves, the ones actually making the presents. They’re kept as slaves and forced to work all year and then Santa revels in the praise. Hardly fair is it? Well, done with a life of slavery, some of the elves have escaped the North Pole and found themselves in…Brixton. On a purpose built […]

CRATE opens Mick’s Garage

Queen’s Yard in Hackney Wick use to be home to Mick’s Mechanics, now, CRATE brewery founders Neil Hinchley and Tom and Jess Seaton have got hold of it and are turning it into Mick’s Garage. Ok, so the name might not be that different, but no the brewers aren’t fancying a go at fixing cars. Instead, Mick’s Garage is going to be a coffee shop/bar/bbq/warehouse – quite the multi-tasker. Gone are the tools, workshops and car parts instead CRATE kegs, trestle tables and reclaimed seats will fill the ground floor. Over in Mick’s old office will be a coffee roastery […]
