House of Ho Review – What We Thought

First impressions were good at House of Ho. Arriving at the Fitzrovia townhouse, we were greeted by hostesses in traditional Asian dresses, relieved of our coats and shown to our table on the first floor. A slightly more intimate space than the ground floor it also felt more luxurious with lots of gold, marble and pale green. The whole restaurant definitely had a buzz to it – a lovely atmosphere made up elegant diners and efficient staff serving plate upon plate of beautiful food up numerous flights of slightly wonky stairs to parties in the private dining rooms – the […]

Eat Out, Save Money: Top January Offers

January really is just a miserable month isn’t it? The Christmas lights are switched off and in the harsh light of day you realise just what damage those mince pies have done. Then you get back to the office you log into your bank account (because nobody needs that terror on their holiday) and oh, great, you have no money  because it all went on the ‘spirit’ (gin we’re looking at you) of Christmas. It’s not all that bad though, because the wonderful restaurants and bars of London have come together with some great offers meaning you can still go […]

2nd Redemption Opens

If you made it one of your New Year’s resolution to eat less meat, drink less alcohol, have less sugar, less wheat, go vegan or all of them (check you out) then we have the restaurant for you: Redemption. Following on from the success of the first Redemption restaurant which opened last year in Notting Hill, the second restaurant is opening in Shoreditch,  which is said to be Redemption’s spiritual home ever since their initial pop-ups proved a massive hit in east London back in 2013. The brain child of Catherine Salway  (ex-Virgin Group Brand Director) and Executive Chef Andrea […]

The Bat and Ball Review – what we thought

If you’ve done your absolute worst to yourself throughout Christmas in terms of over-indulging, especially in regards to alcohol, then the idea of more boozy nights out may prove too much. This doesn’t mean that you have to spend the next few weeks home alone as a new ping pong bar has cropped up in Westfield. The year-long pop up covers 2 floors with the top (the Games Hall) holding 12 tables to obliterate your partner plus a bar to quench your thirst – ping pong is not for the faint hearted after all.Although there’s a bar, there is also […]

The Lighterman Opens

If you were walking along the Thames or one of canals in Victorian London then you’d see the lightermen, the workers who operated ‘lighters’, flat-bottomed good barges. This isn’t Victorian London however, this is unbelievably 2016. London has changed somewhat since Queen Victoria reigned and the corsets and Oliver Twists of our streets may be gone but you’ll still see a lighterman, well The Lighterman. That’s because the Open House( sister group to the Cubitt House group) are opening their second venue on the edge of Regent’s canal early this year. Situated in Granary Square and taking up the whole […]

Sky Garden’s Porridge Bar

We all know January is the bleakest month of the year: we’ve spent too much, we’ve eaten too much and we’ve definitely had too much to drink and now we’re meant to be all positive about resolutions and trying to change for the better whilst it’s cold and miserable outside. Joy. It’s a time to hibernate inside and eat comforting food and what can be more comforting than porridge? It’s good for you, it’s hot and soon you’ll be able to get it at Darwin Brasserie, on the 36th floor of the Sky Garden as throughout January they’ll have a […]

The Four Thieves Review – What We Thought

As someone who is much more at home in a nice pub than a bar I was very excited when I was introduced to Clapham’s The Four Thieves, a fairly traditional pub downstairs with a wicked twist upstairs for any adult-child to unleash their inner youngster in.  As I entered Four Thieves, in Clapham I was rather confused to tell the truth, I had heard it was hybrid of a pub and a games room, but when I entered I was met by a large spacious room filled with a Frankenstein-style, eclectic jumble of random tables and chairs. Large pieces […]
