Charles Worthington Express Menu review

At The Handbook we love telling you about the best new places to eat with the hottest new menus but today we have a slightly different menu to tempt you with, the Charles Worthington’s new Express Menu especially designed for ‘time poor’ City workers.Expect the same treatments but with a chunk of time knocked off by recruiting an extra pair of hands to help. Treatments like a blow dry can be completed in 15 minutes, a colour regrowth and blow dry in an hour, and a half head of highlights and blow dry in 75 minutes. My flavour of the moment […]

The Modern Pantry Finsbury Square Opens

This weekend saw the launch of The Modern Pantry in Finsbury Square, housed in the art deco Alphabeta Building, it’s the second venture from Anna Hansen and Head Chef Rob Mcleary. Taking inspiration from Anna’s Danish roots and the Danish Modern movement, New York based designers, Avroko have used kept things understated and clean cut with white wash walls, graphic tiles, high ceilings and teak, oak and walnut woods.  Dark blue and off white hues throughout the restaurant represent the Flora Danica, a complete atlas off indigenous Danish plants that was created in the 18th and 19th centuries. And just […]

GAIL’s Bakery Garden Party

The smell of hot bread and pastries is probably one of the best there is, so we count neighbours of GAIL’s artisan bakeries as very lucky people. Luckier still, neighbours of their Hampstead store are this year invited to their annual Garden Party, now in it’s tenth year! We daren’t think about how many loaves we have consumed in that time… The garden/street party began as GAIL’s way of saying thank you to their local community for supporting them – although we think it works both ways and a lot of people want to thank them for their morning kickstart […]

The Spirit Social Winter Series

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again; *whisper it* summer’s over. Whilst autumn may have you reaching for the mulled wine or a comforting Bailey’s by the fire, Duppy Share rum are ensuring you can keep with you a bit of summer warmth with a series of pop-up bar events from October to December. Named after Caribbean ghost, Duppy, who, as legend has it, used to take the best of the evaporated liquid from the barrels as the rum aged – known as the Duppy Share. Canny little thing. This playfulness is reflected in the mix of cocktails being […]

400 Rabbits Opens

What do the Aztecs have to do with a new restaurant opening in Crystal Palace? Well 3 things; beer, pizza and rabbits. Confused? Let us explain. Opening this month, is 400 Rabbits a restaurant serving up beer and pizza and from the same team behind the much loved The Lido Café. Now back in the day when the Aztecs were  around (so a long way back in the day) they use to worship the God of Fermentation and the Goddess of Alcohol – our thoughts exactly pretty cool huh? Anyway the God and Goddess got together and the product of […]

M Restaurant review – what we thought

Like Madonna we are always on board with a reinvention and another iconic M, M Restaurant agrees as they have just launched their new summer RAW menu with lighter treats to keep you going in the hot months. Taking inspiration from 6 countries including Japan and Australia, the emphasis here is on meat and fish even on the RAW side of the restaurant. M Restaurant is a fantastic venue space, balancing a relaxed atmosphere with an up market vibe well. Split into the Grill dining area on the left and Raw on the right, the upstairs hosts the cocktail bar, […]
