Jean – Jacques Review – What We Thought

Jean Jacques is a new French brasserie and wine bar, set over three floors of a Soho townhouse, whilst it might be a celebration of Jean Jacques Rousseau., it actually comes from a Russian restaurant group. There’s a cosy cocktail bar in the basement, handy for any Ronnie Scott’s overspill, and a lovely little roof terrace on the first floor, for alfresco dining and drinking. The menu features all the French classics that you’d expect from a Russian restaurant – steak tartare, onion soup, poussin and so on. We started with the snails, which were fine, a little under-salted, and […]

The Lobster Bar opens in Hackney

Following on from their tapas restaurants Ivy’s and Little Ivy’s, tomorrow Cristine Leone and Christina Lahaniati are opening The Lobster Bar on Richmond Road in Hackney and as you can imagine there is a lot of lobster. A lot. Quirky but well put together, the menu is a fusion of nationalities, inspired by the owners’ Greek and Brazilian seaside upbringings and their mutual love of travelling and unsurprisingly the lobster is the star of the show, being served however you desire; in a roll, grilled, tossed through spaghetti… we have been eyeing up the lobster benedict. If lobster isn’t your […]

Hotel Chantelle Review – What We Thought

Having amassed a crowd of followers in New York already, Hotel Chantelle jumped over the pond to open its first restaurant earlier this year and no, despite its name, it is not a hotel. That said given it’s black exterior and neon sign, had it been another part of town you might be forgiven for thinking it was some sort of hotel. The first thing about Hotel Chantelle is that it’s very unapologetically New York. Music was blaring, cocktails were being shaken and it was full of the most beautiful people all dressed in black. Not the customers, no they […]

How to Save Money Planning Your Christmas Party

Everybody looks forward to the annual Christmas Party…everyone but the person who is funding it, that is. For those drunken sheep whose only responsibility is to ‘just turn up’ they have little idea what sort of organisation skills are involved for this shindig to be a success. Nor any clue about how much it really costs to put it all together. Book Your Venue Early The first piece of advice is to book your venue early. It may seem a little keen to start organising in August, but it is surprising how many offices start early. Get in there quick and […]

The Laslett Hotel Opens in Notting Hill

We all have one of those friends who give us house envy. Everything looks as if it is from Etsy or Pinterest, every corner could be on Instagram. Whilst they manage to make their car boot, charity shop find look like a valuable antique, we make it look like we’re hoarders of junk. Well now rather than trying to move into your friend’s house you can just stay at the Laslett Hotel opening in Notting Hill today. Part of the Living Rooms collection, the hotel is named after Rhaune Laslett, a local community activist and organiser of Notting Hill Festival […]
