Urban Edibles Supper Club

We have all heard of dumpster diving and if you ask us, it’s not exactly an activity we would love to try. However, rummaging around for unsold Tesco chicken wraps is not the same thing as some fine-dining foraging. In fact, Urban Edibles are offering a decidedly upmarket new wild food Supper Club, centring on carefully crafted small plates and cocktails created with locally foraged herbs, vegetables and flowers. Now that, we can get on board with! Urban Edibles will be taking place at Ask For Janice, the Modern British All-day restaurant and bar that looks onto Smithfield’s Market. Guests […]

Face Place review – what we thought

My never ending quest for eternal youth and general looks improvement led me to the stunning Rosewood Hotel in Holborn, more specifically at their underground spa. I was there with my grotty face to receive a cleansing like no other as Face Place has launched in the UK offering their one and only Signature Treatment.Described as ‘going to the gym for your skin’ I wasn’t entirely sure what I was letting myself in for, or my lovely face, but I’m as daring as the next incredibly vain person so strapped myself in (lay down on the massage bed) and tried […]

Cinnamon Kitchen Meets Pizza Pilgrims

This is the sort of culture clash that we like to hear about, a meeting of east meets west with the team up between Indian restaurant Cinnamon Kitchen and the Italian inspired Pizza Pilgrims. From the 3rd to the 7th August the Pizza Pilgrims will be parking their Piaggio van in Cinnamon Kitchen’s alfresco terrace to serve up pizzas from noon until 9pm each day. As you can guess these pizzas aren’t your typical Italian offering, nope instead you’ll find Tandoori Chicken, green chilli and cheese and lamb Rogan Josh calzone.  They’re all priced the same too (a mere £8) […]

Fishdog Pop-up

Normally seen at street food markets, festivals and of course in the signature 1971 Citroen H Van, Fishdog from Mark Hix is staying put (well for three weeks) with the start of their residency at Farringdon’s much loved pub, The Hat and Tun next week. Running every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening from the 29th July – 14th August, they’ll be serving up seriously good seafood but with their comfort food twist. You’ll find a selection of their signature dishes including spicy crab chips and the cheekily named Holy F***ed fish balls, croquettes served with spicy mayonnaise made from another […]

The Handbook Meets….Tom Aikens

At 26 Tom Aikens was the youngest British chef to be awarded two Michelin Stars, he’s written three books, made several appearances on television including reaching the final banquet of 2013’s Great British Menu in aid of Comic Relief. He’s cooked for the likes of David Cavalier’s in Battersea, Pierre Koffman’s La Tante Claire, Pied-à-Terre and Joel Robuchon in Paris and now has four of his own restaurants. We caught up with him to talk cooking inspirations, obscure London restaurants and food crazes. Did you feel a sense of pressure or relief at being the youngest person to receive 2 Michelin stars? Alcoholic Architecture

The thing about technology is that it’s made us all pretty lazy people. Emojis have replaced actual sentences and Snapchat just updated their app so that you only have to tap the screen to view snaps, rather than hold down your finger. Now it would seem that even lifting a drink is too much effort for us, and to be honest, we’re not really complaining. This summer, the creative (read: insane) people behind Bompas & Parr are opening a bar that’s filled with alcohol vapour and swaying patrons. Rather than getting a little too merry the old fashioned way, all […]

Corrigan’s Mayfair – What We Thought

The Handbook recently reviewed Richard Corrigan’s restaurant Bentley’s and as we are all about being inclusive, we decided it was only right that we also reviewed its sister venue, Corrigan’s…nothing to do with the promise of more food, we swear. Corrigan’s is an upmarket venue in Mayfair and I was excited to return to the venue after not having eaten there for a while. It is safe to say that I was not disappointed and left feeling impressed and oh so full. Richard Corrigan is a renowned and multi-award winning chef who has been cooking since he was a youngster. Portrait Restaurant Review – What We Thought

What: Audrey Hepburn inspired menu Where: The Portrait Gallery  Why you should go there:   Favourite thing we ate: Veal and ricotta meatballs  If there is one thing I would like to have more of it would be poise. I have about as much grace as small baby elephant which in other words is zero. With this in mind, I went off to the National Portrait Gallery to visit the Audrey Hepburn exhibition, because if anyone could teach me how to be more elegant it would be the actress, dancer and philanthropist who reminded us that Paris never needs a reason and that the […]
