5 Things To Do This St George’s Day

St George’s day is an annual celebration of all things brilliant about England. It’s a day where we celebrate our ridiculous levels of politeness, our masterful use of passive aggression and our ability to slay fiery dragons…well, at least a certain saint’s ability to do that. Whether you stick pictures of her Madge (not Madonna, the other one) all over your walls or simply enjoy a scrumptious scone, you have to do something English for good old St George. Check out our list of the top five things to do on St George’s Day… Drinks at The Crown and Sceptre: […]

The House of Peroni

When it comes to summer there are two things that go hand in hand:  drinking and doing it alfresco, I’m referring to drinking there, I don’t want to know about your antics. All the better if you are somewhere like Italy or if like us a faux Italy.  You might remember we told you about House of Peroni presenting Vita al Fresco which is currently at Harvey Nichols?  Well with the sun shining, we thought where better to go for our Friday night drinks then there? Also quite frankly we didn’t want to be jostled around on the pavement like […]

Dirty Martini Comes To Clapham

Dirty Martini is expanding its empire with the arrival of their 6th bar on the 1st May. They’ve been hard at work as this is the 4th new venue they’ve opened in the last 18 months, a testament to their cocktails and London’s post work drinking habits… This time they’re heading south of the river (for the first time) to Clapham High Street and taking over the site which was formerly The Loft and just in time for summer. This is excellent because we’ll be ordering in the Raspberry and Cider Apple Martini – a muddle of Absolut vodka, Chambord, […]

Kooky Cocktails at Eaton Square

Regular readers of The Handbook will be more than aware of our profound love of cocktails. So you can imagine our utter delight when we heard about the new range of cocktails being offered up by Eaton Square Bar, thanks to their new bar manager, Alin Tur. Whilst Alin might look like perfectly normal, his menu of cocktails might leave you wondering if he’s a mad scientist, rather than a bar manager. We’re not sure if he’s been hanging out with Heston Blumenthal lately, but his new range of cocktails is far from ordinary. The craziness starts with the vast […]

The Royal Opera House’s limited edition L’Occitane Tea.

If I was to write a list of my favourite things it would definitely, amongst others, include fresh flowers, Champagne (I’m not even sorry), new perfume and scones with clotted cream.  Put them together and it can only lead to excellent things – like combining two of my other loves chocolate and peanut butter. Anyway before I digress the Royal Opera House have done just that, throughout May they are serving up a limited edition floral tea in association with L’Occitane and their fine fragrances – La Collection de Grasse.  It’s served in the spectacular Paul Hamlyn Hall – famed […]

Dinner in a cellar

Andrew and Mary Jane Fishwick, the peeps behind Maida Vale’s The Truscott Arms are opening a new venue this June in Belsize Park called The Truscott Cellar (ok so maybe not an actual cellar), a contemporary wine bar with food from chef Aidan McGee. The husband wife duo holds the title for Best Roast in Great Britain so we’re expecting great things from this new launch. Michel Schranz Design and Architecture which has worked with both Tracy Emin and Damian Hirst is developing the two floor site with a sustainable British wood theme and plenty of dark marble. The wine […]

Dom Pérignon Pop Up

Poppin champagne – we’re at it again…. From the 5th of May, for ten days only, Dom Pérignon are opening it’s doors and are inviting guests to their ‘Les 3 Étages’ at…… Well actually we don’t know where they’re at because it’s a secret! The best kept secret in London we’d say. All we know is that Les 3 Étages’ will be set over three distinctive floors, each floor features a different level of champagne maturity called the ‘Plénitudes’. We’re glad someone is being mature around here because after three floors up we think we’ll be giggling our way back […]

Ceviche Old St.

Prior to my review I watched Ceviche Old St’s opening video on their website and decided I liked Martin Morales, head chef and owner, already. His passion was so infectious I felt like I had some sort of personal affiliation with him. Now I knew he could talk the talk but could he walk the walk? (Or cook the food?) The decor in Ceviche is a collaboration between Martin and the award winning Fabled Studio which can only be described as ‘Chicha’ cheeky or playful. This was reflected throughout the restaurant from the waiting staff to the paintings. Apparently guests are […]
