Winter Sun

OK so you’re not detoxing because just like the daylight hours at the moment, life is basically too short. Or perhaps you swapped festive indulgence for a Thai spa and are now ready for action. Either way you could probably do with a drink and all the extra sunshine you can soak up so head over to Granary Square in King’s Cross for Winter Sun, an installation-meets-bar-meets-public space that’s inspired by our need for light in the darkness of winter. The temporary structure of ever-changing light is a collaboration between artists James Bowthorpe and Kim Coleman and architect Andrew Lock. […]

Tea at midnight

The K West Hotel has a musical heritage being the former BBC Building Kensington House in the 60s, with an endless list of music royalty having stayed and most definitely misbehaved including The Kinks, Bob Marley and Bowie. And with music still very much central to the hotel it’s no surprise that when they came to their afternoon tea it too had a musical theme.  It comes in three forms – The Glam Rock Afternoon Tea, The Glam Rock Prosecco Afternoon Tea (both of which are served 2pm -6pm) or the Rock N’ Cocktails Midnight Tea which as the name suggests […]

The World’s End Market

Remember us telling you about World’s End Market? You know the tavern that has been there for so long that it has given its name to the surrounding area? Good, well we went down to check it out its latest transformation. Situated at 459 Kings Road the outside has been returned to its former glory, with an ornate black and gold exterior. You enter through a heavy dark curtain guarded by a doorman; it all feels rather secretive for a restaurant. Inside they’ve gone for a 1930’s canteen feel, with a chequered black and white tiled floor, tiled walls and […]

Busaba Eathai at the O2

Busaba Eathai has just opened its twelfth site at The O2 but whereas some venues choose a D-list celebrity to do the honours, these guys do things a little differently. Yes Alan Yau’s new resto celebrated its opening with a traditional Thai ceremony whereby the space was blessed by five monks! If you’re into word derivation, Busaba is a Thai flower, and Eathai is a fusion of the words ‘eat’ and ‘Thai’. It’s also based on traditional Buddhist values and the concept of sookjai – about avoiding the everyday chaos that distracts you. Otherwise, all you need to know is […]

Bone Daddies Kensington

London’s ramen boom is hotting up with the opening of Bone Daddies third restaurant in Whole Foods Market on High Street Kensington bringing the best of Soho’s Bone Daddies signature ramen and buns from Covent Garden’s Flesh & Buns all under one roof. There’s definitely something for everyone. Ramen fans can fill up on Curry Ramen plus new styles of Tonkotsu tasting dishes like Yellowtail Sashimi with chilli, ponzu and coriander and Soft Shell Crab with green chilli ginger sauce. The steamed buns (dubbed ‘tiger eating’ due to the appearance of the folded bun not because they contain tigers as […]

Portland

Over the past six months Will Lander (co-owner of The Quality Chop House) and Daniel Morgenthau (ex -10 Greek Street) have been working to transform a former clothes show-room on Portland Street into a restaurant, aptly named Portland, which will be opening in January. The all-day restaurant will be light and airy (although this doesn’t mean minimalist!) and will be serving breakfast, lunch and supper with everything in between. Merlin Labron – Johnson will head up the kitchen having recently returned from two years as a sous-chef at In De Wulf in Belgium. His aim is to create accessible, inexpensive […]

Crowdfunding Courtyards

Opening next March in London Fields is Il Cudega an Italian deli, wine bar and restaurant that will be focusing entirely on the produce of Italy’s Lombardy region. Delicious! However they are after your help, they want to create a communal outdoor space which will be shared with two adjoining railway arches. The courtyard will have fruit trees, a vegetable […]

Afternoon Tea with a Twist and a Tail at the Playboy Club

The Playboy Club is one of my favourite venues, perfectly combining opulence with a sense of fun. Walking into Salvatore’s Bar, the room is heaving with lavishness; plush gentlemen’s chairs and bottles of alcohol displayed in the glass cabinet that cost more than my car set the scene, which is interjected by raucous laughter at the bar as a cocktail master class is taking place. The bunnies are in their festive Santa suits, sashaying confidently around with beaming smiles. One of my favourite meals is afternoon tea; oh you didn’t know afternoon was a meal? Well it definitely is. The […]
