Busaba Opens in Shoreditch

Hot on the heels of its recent O2 launch comes Busaba Shoreditch, which, when it opens next month, promises to be the Thai chain’s most ambitious launch in its 15-year history – not to mention coming just in time to celebrate its 15th birthday! The two floor monolith will feature a new Kinnaree bar (pronounced Khin-NAH-rah #justsoyouknow) and two terraces as well. The Kinnaree is a half-woman, half-swan creature that adorns many holy places in Thailand and visitors can expect to see khon dance masks and bronze temple bells centrepieced by- a hand-carved Kinnaree statue. The cocktail list will include […]

Le Chateaubriand launches Le Chabanais

Denizens of Mayfair’s Mount Street will soon have a brand new Gallic haunt; March will see the launch of Le Chabanais, from the team behind France’s celebrated restaurant, Le Chateaubriand ranked No.27 in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Taking its name from an infamous Belle Époque absinthe den  (that’s a brothel if you were in any doubt), the new venue has been conceived together with film producer Varun Talreja, Le Chateaubriand’s self- taught Basque chef owner Inaki Aizpitarte (responsible for spearheading France’s recent ‘bistronomy’ movement – that’s affordable haute cuisine to you and me) and his partners Franck Audoux and Laurent […]

‘Chef of the Century’ Joël Robuchon, the Frenchman with no less than 25 Michelin stars to his err…apron strings, is taking his celebrated restaurant ‘L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon’ to New York City. Not satisfied with his bevy of establishments in Paris, London, Las Vegas, Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore and Monaco (to name but a few), Robuchon is continuing his world domination of the restaurant scene with a shiny new joint in New York, opening in March. Medcalf Traiteur

Medcalf of Exmouth Market has just got a new neighbour in the shape of Medcalf Traiteur – bang next door at number 38, in what was previously the restaurant’s gallery space. The new project from Simon Lee and Tim Wilson features a simpler menu than the one available at the mothership, one designed to celebrate the craftsmanship of culinary produce from across Europe – along with the opportunity to buy products to try at home. Tombo: Japanese with a Difference

London seems to be saturated with sushi joints at the moment, but South Kensington’s Tombo is different. Not just a sushi stop-off, it’s an authentic Japanese café-cum-delicatessen with an interesting selection of teas and, unusually, Japanese desserts (think green tea tiramisu). ‘Tombo’ means dragonfly and is a symbol of positive force and renewal in Japan. In-keeping with this, the menu boasts both healthy and hearty options. Warm your cockles with a steaming bowl of chicken katsu curry or miso salmon noodle broth. If you’re there for lunch and fancy something a bit lighter you can create your very own Bento […]
