Shoryu Ramen, Soho Review

Japanese food is up there with my favourite cuisines but having never ventured to this particular establishment before I was intrigued to see what they would have to offer. The restaurant looks quite unassuming from the outside but inside it takes on the appearance of a cosy Japanese Ramen bar. It’s cosily lit, dark walls and wooden detailing. We were sat at the front of the restaurant in a reasonably narrow space but go out the back and it opens out into a sizeable area, even with a private dining room downstairs. We started by meeting Mimi, restaurant manager and […]

November 2014 Openings

November is a peculiar month. Despite the fireworks that grace our skies on bonfire night, there is not a great deal to be excited about, especially after weeks of preparing for Halloween. This doesn’t mean that you have to sit at home and sulk though. Grab your sparklers and make sure you check out some of the capitals latest openings. From lobster at Fraq’s, to stuffed gyoza at the new Bone Daddies in Kensington, there a heap of new openings to add some fire into a rather dreary month. There is even the promise of breakfast in bed- and with […]

Dim Sum Sundays at Hakkasan

Humans are creatures of comfort, so as the temperature drops and the days get darker it’s all too tempting to stay hidden under an increasing pile of blankets as you worked your way through  Netflix’s entire catalogue, until the spring when you’ll emerge from your lair blinking in the sunlight. Well, it’s time to change that. It’s time to get dressed, and no pyjamas don’t count even if you do wear them with proper shoes, and head to Hakkasan, because they’ve just launched their Winter  Sunday dim sum menu – perfect timing with the clocks going back. It’s all about […]

FRESCOBALDI

The Frescobaldi family claims to know quite a lot about wine. And with a history dating back to the Renaissance when they traded wine for works of art with Michelangelo and Roman Emperor Maximillian I even recommended their vintages to the Pope we think they probably know what they’re talking about. But what those outside Italy might not know is that they also do food. They opened a restaurant division about 15 years ago called Dei Frescobaldi with outlets in Florence and Rome and even produce olive oil via a label called Laudemio. Anyway next month you’ll be able to […]

Goode & Wright Review

At first glance, Goode & Wright is in a cracking location on the Portobello Road not far from the Electric. The site is small but cosy and the restaurant is styled as a French bistro drawing in a mixed crowd from the Notting Hill area, giving it a fun and relaxed feel.  Already well known as a brunching haunt for hungover weekenders (I hear the chef’s special, Eggs Benedict, is a “must try”), the management team (who also own the site) have been ramping up the dinner menu and will soon be serving cocktails in the evening by the Talented […]

Valentina Fine Foods Review

Valentina Fine Foods is a series of Italian restaurants and delis that has recently launched a new branch in Chiswick, we headed down to check it out. From the street Valentina Fine Foods looks like a café and deli with all kinds of authentic produce lining the walls, it’s only after walking in that you realise a smart restaurant sits at the back. Even further back is the open plan kitchen which serves classic Italian dishes, check your table for the list of changing specials which aren’t on the menu. The specials when we went were Mussels to start, served […]
