Porky’s BBQ: Review

Following on from the success of their Camden branch, husband and wife team  Simon and Joy Brigg launched a second restaurant over on Bankside recently and so The Handbook team went down to check it out. Inside the restaurant is all exposed brick walls, high sturdy wooden tables and stools, twinkling lights, it’s stripped back but still welcoming and reflects the simple but well-honed menu. We chose however, to sit outside but unfortunately Porky’s is situated on a street which doesn’t seem to catch the sun, so whilst we could see people walking in the light by the river our […]

A Shoreditch Pop-Up

Listen up, we’ve just heard about a pop-up coming to Shoreditch this December that, if you’re super-organised and are already planning your festive work party (well done you), you have to check out. That’s right, this year an Enchanted Nordic Yulefest is popping-up in the heart of Shoreditch. It’s a Christmas experience like no other and is going to make last year’s office party last year look, well, a little deflated. And why? Because it’s going to be a birch tree lined fairyland with sheepskin laden nooks (the place for the obligatory office party romance?) and forget the usual standard […]

Last year saw Dhruv cooking up Malaysia, Mexican and Asian cuisine and this time he is going slightly more adventurous with an Andalusian theme. La Tagliata

The City is getting a little slice of Italy today with the launch of La Tagliata. The new restaurant specialises in its namesake tagliata – that typically Italian dish of thinly sliced steak. The menu concept, by head chef Antonio Tonelli, is super simple – the tagliata coming served with Parmesan, cherry tomatoes and rocket plus rosemary roasted potatoes or patate del pastore (potatoes cooked slowly in garlic and stock). Vegetarians eat baked Scamorza, an Italian cheese similar to mozzarella. Otherwise, there’s a pasta starter, handmade daily, with a choice of three seasonal sauces and typically Italian desserts such as pannacotta or […]

Valentine Warner Pops up at New Tom’s

Calling all food fans, acclaimed chef Valentine Warner will be hosting an unmissable one-off dining event on 23rd July at the new Notting Hill pop-up from Tom Conran, New Tom’s. You might recognise Valentine from his hit TV series, What To Eat Now, on BBC Two. He went on to lead to a further TV series and two accompanying books which led to him being dubbed the Russell Brand of cooking – which is a good thing, we think. Valentine will give a quick talk about the preparation and cooking of the menu before serving up a delicious 4 course […]

Vegan Afternoon Tea Review

If there is one thing London does well it’s an afternoon tea, seeing as England is the creator of the mid-afternoon pick me up, we certainly should be. But after over 150 years of enjoying them, creative types have started trying to re-invent them. We’ve seen Mad Hatter themes, Chelsea Flower themes, Halloween, Musical, Christmas, even an Asian afternoon tea! What we haven’t heard of is a vegan afternoon tea, until now that is. The newly launched restaurant "RAW" at La Suite West offers a new health focused option when it comes to dining which has recently extended its menu […]

Fish Market: Review

We all know that sharing is caring and with this (possibly) in mind, Fish Market restaurant have launched a new sharing platter menu, The Fish Shack which is available at the weekends. Despite the rain that kept coming through in bursts we chose to sat outside; with plants winding around the railings hiding the bustle of Bishopsgate, large umbrellas forming a canopy across the whole terrace and heaters we were kept nice and snug, but if you’re able to go in the evening when it’s dry then the terrace is lovely with twinkling lights and flickering candles. The menu is […]
