Head Chef Matthew Harris celebrates 20 years at Bibendum

This April, the Bibendum veteran and protege of founding partner Simon Hopkinson, Matthew Harris will celebrate his twentieth year holding the position of head chef at the restaurant.  Cooking since its opening back in 1987 and taking over the kitchen in 1995 he brought a contemporary flair to the menu that has remained to this day. Robust and unfussy, Matthew Harris is a supporter of classic French cooking made with seasonal British produce- there is no element of passing trend or fad about it.    To celebrate his time at Bibendum, Harris has joined forces with Simon Hopkinson to create […]

We all know we need to say thank you to our mothers more often; they have looked after us when we were scared of the dark, they've cooked us endless fish fingers, wiped away tears, confiscated dreadful eyeshadow (in hindsight, thank goodness), stopped us from leaving the house in sartorial disasters and been there for us more times than we can remember – so with Mother's Day just around the corner, it is time to get planning and say thank you properly. Here are some of the best events happening in London.  34 With their popularity soaring over the last […]

Mews of Mayfair Review

The Handbook went to Mews of Mayfair for a little bit of late night dining. When we arrived at Lancashire Court just off New Bond Street, it had all the bustle of a thieves market; there were people everywhere chatting, smoking and getting ready to move on for their night out – drinks firmly in hand. But as we stepped into the door of Mews of Mayfair, climbed the stairs we instantly felt relaxed – as we left the mayhem below and entered the twinkling, quaint brasserie. With low, warm lights, plenty of candles and a simple décor of thick […]

Zilouf’s

Islington’s Zilouf’s has been completely made over by Pete Clucas, Niall Downey, Tim Yates and Francis Puyat – team behind 100 Hoxton and has just relaunched with a fully refurbished interior plus newly devised Asian fusion menus and new cocktail offering too. The interior is evolved from the eccentric original and is full of reclaimed or upcycled materials and vintage furniture: disassembled pianos, old submarine lights, battered leather chesterfields, a vintage television (now a fish tank), 1930's mirrors and light fittings made from antique cocktail shakers and ice buckets. The menu consists of small dishes and a handful of larger […]
