The Blues Kitchen: Review

Over at the Blues Kitchen in Camden they are spicing up Monday nights with a ribs festival throughout January and February. Having invited the countries best rib chefs to come in and cook up some of America’s most loved food, The Handbook went down on its opening night to check it out. From the outside it looks dark, the wood distressed, inside it was still dark with low red lights but it was packed – good work for an early Monday evening. A mix of bar seats, high tables, booths; we were quickly shown to our seat and explained which […]

Casa di Fiori Review

The first thing I notice about Casa Di Fiori as I walk through the doors is just how pretty it is inside. The interior is decorated light blue and white with ornaments border-lining on tacky but that can be over-looked because of how sweet and atmospheric the restaurant is. After soaking in the atmosphere we settled down and ordered our starters. I opted for the Cauliflower Cream with a balsamic vinegar reduction, which although consisting mainly of a vegetable I hardly doubt it counts as one of my five of day as it was so creamy and delicious, it can’t […]

Our favourite afternoon teas

In the early nineteenth century it is said that Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford complained of a ‘sinking feeling in the afternoon’, at the time it was common just to eat breakfast and supper, and so she began to snack on sandwiches and little cakes to curb her hunger. On returning to London, Anna started inviting friends over to join her and so the tradition of afternoon tea was formed. Today, the quintessentially English tradition is still as popular as ever and whilst  choosing a definitive list is arguably impossible, we’ve rounded up some of our favourites. The only question […]

Chop Shop: Review

Over in Haymarket the Chop Shop has just launched their new Sunday lunch set menu: a beef rib chop, roast potatoes, side and half a bottle of red wine for £35. We arrived late afternoon to find the restaurant had mellowed after a busy lunch service and there were just few a couples spending long, lazy afternoons with bottles of wine. The restaurant itself is long, narrow with tables for two down the side, at the end it opens out into a larger space where there was a mix of tables for larger parties. It is all very laid back, […]
