Valentine’s Day at Gilgamesh

We love flowers and chocolates for Valentine’s Day as much as anyone else but we also really love cocktails and we adore diamonds. So put diamonds and cocktails together and we would have one very happy Valentine’s Day. Well over at Gilgamesh, in Camden, one lucky diner will win a diamond worth £2000 (provided by renowned Hatton Garden jeweller, Star Jewellers) which they will find at the bottom of a Pink Martini aptly named Diamonds are Forever.  A cocktail that is sure to impress and a Valentine’s Day to remember.   Whilst you are ordering as many cocktails as you […]

Suka Review

Last week The Handbook stepped out of the torrential rain on Berners Street and into the slightly surreal world of Sanderson. We walked through the dazzlingly white Long Bar, past the magical court yard and into Suka – the Malaysian restaurant, the majority of the restaurant is long communal trestle tables but we were in a corner which was cut off by a black drape, wing- back black leather chairs circled  a black table dotted with candles. It’s wonderfully secluded whilst still being part of the restaurant, and it felt rather like we were in a club about to start playing […]

Dub Jam

The first of next month welcomes Dub Jam to Covent Garden. The tiny Jerk BBQ & Rum Shack fuses the laid back beach vibe of the Caribbean, with tasty, contemporary Jamaican barbecue flavours and the sounds of reggae label ‘Trojan Records’. The kitchen will pump out a Trojan soundtrack from Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff to Rocksteady, Dub, Ska and Roots. Aiming to capture the spontaneity of a beach party, the interior features lights made from reclaimed buoys and tin-cans, stools made from beer kegs and car wheels, a shelf bar made from half a surfboard and cake display made […]

myhotel Bloomsbury Review

The Handbook escaped south west London and headed into central London to spend a night on Bedford Street at Myhotel Bloomsbury. Part of a group of boutique hotels, Myhotel Bloomsbury is meant to be a fusion of east meets west, although this theme wasn’t too apparent throughout the hotel, there were little nods to it here and there such as the names of the meeting rooms and a couple of pictures in the room, but had we not been told of the theme I don’t know if we would have guessed it. Although there is the serene, Asian-inspired Jinja treatment […]

La Porte Des Indes Review

Cutting an unassuming exterior and tucked away from the bustle of Marble Arch stands veteran Indian restaurant La Porte Des Indes. Innocently painted a plain white and looking very inconspicuous, all former expectations of this being a cramped curry house were dropped as we walked into a huge Alladin's cave…complete with waterfall. Having our coats taken at the door by polite staff, we were led to a table overlooking the water feature as we gazed open mouthed at the sheer size of the building. Once an Edwardian ballroom, La Porte des Indes is spread across two floors, with various themed […]
