The Mince Pie Project

The Mince Pie Project has been running since 2011, and aims to raise money to fight child poverty by auctioning off mince pies created by various different celebrity chefs. This year, The Mince Pie Project will be working with 100 of the UK’s best chefs to raise money for two wonderful charities: Kids Company and FoodCycle. The chefs involved include Michel Roux Jr, Raymond Blanc, Angela Hartnett, Georgio Locatello and this year’s Great British Bake Off winner, Frances Quinn, among many others. If you’re not too keen on traditional mince pies, then don’t worry: there will obviously be lots of […]

Floridita Hot Rum Bar Review

Last week, Floridita launched a Hot Rum Bar for the Christmas season, which will be open until early February. It is located in their subterranean Rum Shack, with a perfect view of the long bar so you can watch your hot cocktails being prepared – always my favourite part! We were shown to a sofa, where we could just sit back and relax: all of the sofas are covered in comfy throws and cushions, so it is the perfect place to snuggle up and catch up with friends over Christmas. As well as the usual Rum Shack menu, there is […]

Christmas at One Aldwych

To celebrate the run-up to our favourite day of the year, One Aldwych has launched an interactive advent calendar on their website, where daily prizes will be given away. Readers have the opportunity to apply for a new prize each day: today’s prize, for example, is winter warmer cocktails and mince pie crumbles for two in the Lobby Bar. It sounds like a great idea to us, and is definitely helping us get in the festive mood! One Aldwych has also unveiled a show-stopping 25-foot candy cane Christmas tree, inspired by the magic of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as […]

Ping Pong: Review

Last week The Handbook headed over to Ping Pong at South Bank for a little bit of midweek dim sum. Arriving early on Wednesday evening the restaurant was already packed, to the point where it was almost hard to hear each other (a testament to the delicious dim sum and also their South Bank location) but we managed to secure a table for two and got down to ordering. The menu is made up of baked, fried, griddled and rice dishes, so we recommend getting a little bit of everything for a real smorgasbord of dim sum. If you’re not […]
