Tea fit for a queen

Just 12 months after the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, when Royal Warrent Holder, Fortnum & Mason celebrated the occasion by opening the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon, it is marking the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty’s coronation with the luxurious Coronation Afternoon Tea. Head chef Jane Smyth has created an afternoon tea menu fit for a queen with Miniature beef wellington, Norfolk asparagus tartlet with hollandaise sauce and Smoked salmon and cucumber blini with sauce vierge and asparagus en croute. Sweet treats include Maids of Honour and Kent strawberries and just so you know, all of these dishes actually formed part of the original Coronation banquet. Oh […]

The Handbook goes to Heaton Butler and Bayne

Last night The Handbook headed to Heaton Butler and Bayne in Covent Garden, the new restaurant created by Robert Siegler. Situated in a former stained glass factory on the corner of Floral and Garrick Street in Covent Garden, the first thing we noticed was how simple and minimal the decor was: white brick walls, sharp straight lined tables and bare wooden floors. But it worked well, it felt almost refreshing and as it got darker and the tea lights were brought out the atmosphere was intimate but not cluttered. The only thing to say was that the edges of the […]

One Day at The Roof Gardens

The staple of any spring is a visit to The Roof Gardens on Kensington High Street and hopefully by May the sun will be making more of a regular appearance, because on May 5th The Roof Gardens are celebrating their 75th anniversary with ‘One Day’. Between 1pm and 8pm the private members club will be opening its door for a day of partying. DJ Benji Boko will be headlining and getting the festivities going alongside other DJs. Oh and our favourite part? The new 75th sharing cocktails served in watering cans such as Mallards Muse, a crisp mix of St […]

Flemings Mayfair launch Mayfair Monopoly campaign

Monopoly: a game synonymous with rainy Sunday afternoons, family arguments and childhood. Most families have an old board which has been in the family for years, a board which has Mayfair in its rightful place next to ‘Go.’ But times are changing, and now Monopoly is in electronic form, and somehow in 2011 Mayfair was given the metaphorical Monopoly boot to be replaced by Kensington Palace Gardens. Flemings Mayfair Hotel at the heart of Mayfair is leading the national campaign to get Mayfair back on it the board with their, ‘Mayfair back in the game campaign’. On Monday 15th Flemings […]

Saturday Film Club at Covent Garden Hotel

Make a change from your usual Saturday film night this weekend by taking a trip to the Covent Garden Hotel on Monmouth Street for their Saturday night film club. Each week a different film is shown from classics to latest releases, and with guests being able to enjoy either afternoon tea or a two course dinner in the hotel’s restaurant, Brasserie Max beforehand, it is no ordinary cinema experience. Nor is it ordinary since there are only 47 seats, which means you know you aren’t going to have to put up with rustling and noisy neighbours. So for an intimate […]
