Open Sesame

Nope, not inspired by a dodgy magician – rather the market stalls and smoking grills of the Middle East from beachfront shacks of Istanbul to the crowded alleyways of Jerusalem– coming atcha in April in Covent Garden. Sesame has got serious form though being the brainchild of Noam Bar, one of the founders of Ottolenghi. Noam grew up in Israel so knows a good thing about the regions culinary offerings and factor in the support of his Ottolenghi colleagues – Sami Tamimi and Yotam Ottolenghi – and it will doubtless be a sure fire winner. The team researched the best […]

Cinnamon Kitchen’s House of Holi

We all need a little bit more colour in our lives, there’s too much grey in London, from our suits, to the buildings to the sky. Well that is all about to change because between the 5th – 14th March, Cinnamon Kitchen is going to be setting the city alight with the return of the House of Holi. Coming to Devonshire Square, the pod will be available for both public and private sessions and the concept is simple but fabulous, you get to don your white suit and just get to muck around throwing coloured powder each other – what’s […]

Original Sin in Stokey

Original Sin. That happened because Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, resulting in the rest of us being born sinful and with an innate urge to do very.bad.things. Cheers for that guys. Seeing as we’re doomed anyway, we thought we might as well go for cocktails on a week night (wild, we know) so to Stoke Newington we went, to pay a visit to Happiness Forgets’ younger, naughtier sister, Original Sin. To East London’s underbelly we descended, emerging blinking in a sleek, wood-panelled lounge bar with low lighting, cosy booths and secret doors. But enough […]

The Cross Keys Reopens

Let’s take a look back at 1708, Queen Anne was on the throne, men wore silk stockings and uncooked fruit was feared (they thought it could give them the plague). It was also the year that Chelsea pub The Cross Keys opened.  It continued to serve Chelsea for the next 300 years, a true institution it welcomed in the likes of Agatha Christie, Dylan Thomas and Bob Marley until it shut in 2012. After a brief stint with squatters it is being returned to its former glory by the DM Group, that’s Mark Dyer and Eamonn Manson, they’re the team behind […]

Hawker House Returns…

We love street food, music, cocktails and crisp winter air but, really, we sort of love being in the warmth too don’t we? Fear not, you no longer have to worry about the cold and you can still have all the excitement of being out on the streets as Hawker House is back. An abandoned office block is set to be transformed dramatically into three floors of street food. Whether you’re a cocktail and a burger person, or a beer and a curry or even whisky and jazz, Hawker House caters for all. Oh, did we mention there’s a Whisky […]

Newman Street Tavern

Walk into the Newman Street Tavern just off Goodge Street and if you drown out the bustle of London, squint a bit and add in some mud and you could be a countryside pub, admittedly a gastropub in the Home counties but you get the drift. Or at least that seems to be the vibe they’ve been going for in the upstairs restaurant.  Dark wooden floors, give way to high ceilings, big sash windows and walls which are adorned in clusters of illustrations and images which have a flora/fauna/coastal theme running throughout. It’s snug, welcoming and when we arrived on […]

Rio Carnival comes to Sushisamba

Yes we know it’s Shrove Tuesday tomorrow and that means pancakes but you know what, we’re also celebrating the Rio Carnival and so is Sushisamba. The hybrid Japanese-Brazilian-Peruvian sushi restaurant is focusing on the Brazilian part with an evening of live performances from shimmering samba dancers, DJs, the booming sounds of Batucada drummers and a live feed of the carnival in Brazil.  Alongside the entertainment there is also a special menu with asparagus and salmon tempura, Carnaval Maki, scallop ‘seviche’ and Sambódromo which to you and me is white chocolate, mango mojito sorbet, lucuma jelly, banana and yamazaki. Tuesday 17th […]

The Hampton Court Palace Wedding Fair

We’ve had the flurry of engagements at Christmas and wedding season starts in a few months, so now is the time to start planning. Because believe it or not there is quite a lot to think about a wedding (who’d have thought?) there is the cake, the dress, the flowers, the napkins, decorations and that’s even before the downright nerve -wracking experience of who to ask to be your best man/ maid of honour. Well Hampton Court Palace is here to give a helping hand with the return of their wedding fair on the 22nd February. Taking place in the […]
