Epic SANA Algarve: Restaurants

A couple of weeks ago The Handbook told you all about Epic SANA, the new 5* hotel in the Algarve, and whilst we mentioned the food, it only seems fair that we delve a little further into the wonderful Portuguese cuisine.   With three bars and two restaurants in the hotel there is plenty of choice, especially as each one offers something a little different. Weary from our 4am start and journey over to Epic Sana, eating was first on our list of things to do, and so we headed over to the Abyad Restaurant, for lunch. With a mix […]

Christopher’s Marvellous Martini Bar

It was Tuesday, and we needed a cocktail, something classic but still inventive, something like a martini. So we headed over to Christopher’s in Covent Garden to try out their bar, which just so happens specialises in martini’s – the Martini Bar. The bar takes on a theatrical appearance, emulating the style of American Deco, it’s grand, with deep opulent colours set against gold, but still with contemporary modern fixtures such as the tubular hanging lights. And the decor rather mirrors the menu which is divided up into classic, contemporary and decadent, with martinis ranging from The Original, to the […]

Farewell party for the Street Feast

It’s been 12 hugely successful weeks, but unfortunately it has come to the time where we have to say good bye to Street Feast at Merchant’s Yard.  So to do this they are pulling out all the stops for what ensures to be one heck of a party with more great street food then you can shake a stick at. To get things kicked off they have a ‘suped up’ Rotary Mobile Margarita Mixing Machine, and food from the likes of Ceviche who will be heading over from Soho, before they start their own pop up tour, with them they […]

The wonderful Penny Black on Fulham Road is putting an end to staying in during the week, with two fabulous midweek nights and both for just £12 per person! Huzzah! On Tuesday nights, forget staying in to watch some obscurely weird documentary or doing your washing, because at The Penny Black you can get a 1kg bowl of mussels, truffle chips and sauces, a much better way to spend you evening than seeing the man with ten ears or other such nonsense. And celebrate mid week on Wednesdays by grabbing a load of friends and heading over to the Fulham […]

Obikà, a taste of Italy in South Kensington

Last Friday, The Handbook took the rare opportunity to enjoy the last of the sunshine with a window table at Obikà mozzarella bar in South Kensington to indulge in some cheese… alot of cheese. The restaurant is painted in black but it the large open windows and the staff who were attentive and friendly ensured that the atmosphere was light and sophisticated rather than being dark and stuffy. After being seated, we were brought an orange liqueur cocktail by the devilishly charming waiter, it was sweet, yet refreshing and worked well with the buffalo mozzarella that they served it with, […]

Champagne at the Crypt with Bleeding Heart

Forget glassy interiors, sky-high eateries and 21st century bars. For this special dinner on 2nd July, the Bleeding Heart restaurant is taking it down, down to the Crypt in fact. But don’t let thoughts of cobwebs, gloom and dust put you off. The only skeletons in this closet are five delicious champagnes, from the Magnum-served 2000 and 2002 to the red grape Pinot Noir, to accompany this five-course Champagne Magnum Club dinner. The Crypt at Ely Place isn’t your average horror location. Instead, expect to discover an atmospheric medieval venue that brings sophisticated modern dining to the era of romance. […]

The Gilbert Scott Gin Garden

This year is definitely turning out to be gin’s year, no longer the humble spirit only found in G+T’s,  with London still giddy from The Great Gatsby and gin has had quite a revival and now The Gilbert Scott in St Pancras are set to open their Gin Garden and we certainly can’t wait to head over for drinks. The forecourt of the Gilbert Scott will be transformed into a traditional country garden, and guests will be able to indulge in botanical themed gin cocktails, with the help of collaborators Hendricks, perhaps swayed by the name, Lady’s Grey is definitely […]
