Ski Celebration at Ben’s Canteen

Skiing is perhaps one of the only good things to come out of the cold and miserable season that is Winter…and you can't even ski in London! Boo. However, Ben's Canteen knows how much we love the sport, and they are holding an end of season Apres Ski Party next week, turning the venue into 'Ben's Chalet' for one night only. Arrive from 5pm on the 14th March for a celebration of snowy slopes – complete with vin chaud, Alpine-inspired dishes, and some classic ski tunes. You are encouraged to sport ski-wear for the evening, with those turning up in […]

Renaissance celebrates Pie Week

It's not just the Ides of March. This week is British Pie Week. Yes really. To celebrate, South London’s Renaissance Pub Group is offering a pie and a pint for a tenner. The group rears its own free-range meat from its very own farm in Hampshire so you can be pretty certain that its Cow, Chicken and Lamb pies contain the correct animal. The Cow option combines slow cooked ox tail, ox cheek and tripe; Chicken pie includes chicken, wild mushroom and chicken livers whilst lamb pie features slow cooked hogget (lamb in case you’re wondering) with potatoes and rosemary. Sneak Peak at Salvador

It’s a shame when an evening doesn’t quite live up to expectations. Last night saw the Handbook team head over to the greatly anticipated opening of Salvador & Amanda’s second London venue in Bloomsbury. Although promised canapés and cocktails, we were disappointed to see that the only ‘cocktail’ served was weak sangria spiced up with chopped fruit, and canapés were more nibbles – deli meats, sliced cheese and miniscule chips. If the plan was to give a taste of the kind of dishes the tapas bar will serve, it failed. Although we were served some delicious Padrón peppers and Chipirones […]

Dinner at Elistano

Friday night in Chelsea and the King’s Road is beginning to fill up. The same however, couldn’t be said for Elistano, the Italian restaurant just off Sloane Avenue. At its peak, there were just 4 tables occupied including my own. Despite the poor turnout, there were no excuses for slack service, and it wasn’t. Lulu and I were served by a waiter and waitress who took it in turns to serve us – both extremely efficient and courteous. For starters we ordered the Selection of Deep Fried Seafood to share with a Tartar sauce. It was delish and the selection […]
