Superfood Seaweed at Aqua Kyoto

Over the last few years we’ve seen the rise of the superfoods from blueberries and acai (no, we’re still not sure how to pronounce it) to quinoa (that one took us a while too) and the humble broccoli, well now there is a new superfood in town – seaweed. High in fibre, iodine and complete protein it’s nutritionally rich and perfect for the autumn to ward off the inevitable ‘changing of the seasons’ cold and Executive Chef Paul Greening at Aqua Kyoto is championing it with his new seaweed menu. Having grown up 10 minutes from the beach and with […]

October 2014 Openings

It’s official the winter is coming, it’s harder to get up in the mornings and the evenings are getting darker. You know what we need in times like this? Comfort food, food for the soul, we’re done with salads, over the detox diet. Good thing then that this month sees the arrival of Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, a salt beef bar, the third Herman ze German and the next Fish and Chip Shop… prepare for hibernation, here is The Handbook’s guide to the best new restaurants opening in London during October.  Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Arguably as infamous as ‘Run […]

Get Creative at Bite Me Pizza

Have you ever tried to make your own pizza? We mean really make it – shop bought dough is not allowed. If so, you know what appears to be a fairly easy task can quickly become rather challenging and end in tears. Cue misshapen bases, under-proved dough and a very unhappy chef. For this reason, we were delighted to discover Bite Me Pizzas; a shabby chic pizzeria based in Notting Hill, where customers can choose from over thirty toppings in which to create a custom-made pizza. Founded by twenty-two year old Christopher Mannesis, the ethos of the restaurant is simple: […]

Ohlala Macarons’s Tea Room Pops Up

Anna, Duchess of Bedford was an expert at setting trends, fashionable one might say, after all she was the one who came up with afternoon tea because she got hungry between breakfast and supper, which you know was probably scandalous back in 19th century, cake between meals – how daring! Well now after years of tea and scones, there is a new decadence in town, macarons and old James Bond’s favourite, martinis, courtesy of Ohlala Macarons.   They’ve teamed up with the quintessentially British label Antoni & Alison to host an afternoon of indulgence. In the super cute and charming ‘Ye Olde […]

Pellicano Restaurant Review

Pellicano restaurant is a family owned Sardinian establishment who is currently finding a home at myhotel Chelsea, while their original residence at Elystan Street is under refurbishment. Their new location is on the ground floor of the hotel and has its own terrace when you can enjoy the hot, city nights while indulging in some people watching. The food is Italian with a Sardinian twist and like any good Italian boasts an extensive wine list, that being said the Raspberry Martini is a great summer cocktail, not so strong that you are floored but it has enough kick to know […]

The Betjeman Arms – Review

From the Geronimo Inns group comes the (newly re-launched) Betjeman Arms; ideally located on the upper level of Kings Cross St Pancras International so you can enjoy one last meal in the capital before catching your Eurostar; or even a welcome home drink after a long weekend away. We were seated in the dining room, a hugely comfortable red and yellow accented space, with warm lighting and cosy furnishings that offers a relaxing atmosphere in which to enjoy a meal. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, immediately making us feel welcome and at ease; we ordered two glasses of red […]
