Dim Sum Sundays at Hakkasan

This Autumn the original Hakkasan restaurant, at Hanway Place, has been changing things up a bit with their take on the tradition that is Sunday lunch. The Michelin- starred restaurant has joined forces with Champagne house Perrier Jouёt to create a stunning four course dim sum feast. Gracing the menu are a range of dishes such as salads, steamed, fried, baked and grilled dumplings, rolls and puffs as well as main courses and of course as no lunch is complete without it, desserts. Highlights from the menu include lobster salad with white truffle and lily bulb, prawn shumai and chinese […]

Party at Tonteria!

Mexican-themed tequila bar Tonteria is the venue of the moment. Set on the popular Sloane Square, its ‘Do Not Disturb’ night has proved incredibly popular. One recent event saw socialites Charlie Van Straubenzee, Freddy Van Zevenbergen and George Askew sipping on champagne in the VIP area at the 30th birthday party of Tonteria’s PR Director, Jessica Patterson. A spectacular dance act was also choreographed for Jessica, which made use of a bouncy castle, ultraviolet lights and neon body paint. Earlier in the evening, Jessica hosted a dinner at The Café Royal Hotel’s new golden Roman-style patisserie. The room has floor-to-ceiling […]

Snowflake Luxury Gelato: Review

Last night having found ourselves in Soho, The Handbook decided to defy the cold weather and head to Snowflake for gelato. Having opened at the end of September it is the second boutique, the first having opened in Bayswater. It was all very sleek, minimal with white walls, counters and tables but the splashes of pink stopped it from being hostile or sterile. There were a few high tables, a bar and booths, so if you are like we were and can’t handle the cold outside there is space to sit and indulge. Before you panic and ask ‘why do […]

The Bull Food Review

The Bull is committed to supporting their local suppliers and sources only the freshest, highest quality ingredients in their restaurant. The menu brings together elements of Kentish, British and European cuisine and varies from classic pub food to a la carte dining suitable from couples to families to enjoy. We decided to pop down and check it out for ourselves! The starter of Pesto linguine was created especially as a smaller main to make up for the lack of vegetarian options in the starter menu but unfortunately there was nothing special about it. It seemed to lack the main ingredient of […]

Foxlow

New to Clerkenwell is Foxlow, the 100-cover restaurant and bar from Will Beckett and Huw Gott. Serving slow-smoked and charcoal grilled dishes, salads and sides alongside original cocktails, Foxlow is a neighbourhood restaurant with informal service and a comfortable, lived-in interior. Situated in a Grade II listed former cork warehouse, the split-level venue features two ground floor dining areas and a first floor gallery. The interior features reclaimed materials throughout. The 1950’s oak flooring and pendant light fittings come from a workingmen’s club in Wigan while old chemistry labtops from a Yorkshire school provide tabletops and make up the bar. […]

Review: Est. India

On Saturday evening, The Handbook made a trip South of the river to review Est. India, a newly opened Indian restaurant in Southwark. The décor was fairly standard: minimal and neutral, but modern and clean. When we arrived at 7pm, the restaurant was pretty empty, although it had filled up quite a lot by the time we left. We were seated at a comfortable booth table. To drink, we ordered my favourite, mango lassi, and it didn’t disappoint: deliciously sweet but not overwhelming – the perfect accompaniment to a spicy meal. The menu is extensive, and it took us a […]

Review: The Gate Hammersmith

On Friday evening, The Handbook packed up shop and headed over to Hammersmith to try out recently re-opened vegetarian restaurant, The Gate. Being vegetarian, I was very excited to sample the food and actually have a choice about what I was going to eat, but I was also a little bit sceptical due to past experience with vegetarian restaurants. The restaurant is hidden down a very residential road, and we have to drive past a couple of times before we spotted it. The dining room is situated in a sort of warehouse/barn conversion, with heaps of natural light, giving the […]
