Westfield Stratford City

While we may not be overly enthralled at the prospect of the Tube closures and general TFL mayhem in the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games, we are, none the less, getting rather excited at the prospect of Westfield Stratford City with its fast encroaching opening date of 13 September this year at the gateway to the Olympic Park. The 1.9 million sq ft development will create a new lifestyle destination for London that will infuse shopping and leisure with the creative spirit for which East London has become famous. It is set to house over 300 stores, 70 […]

Our House at V Festival

Looking forward to V Festival at the weekend? We certainly are – not least to catch Eminem and Rihanna singing Love The Way You Lie on the Virgin Media stage at Hylands Park on Sunday. However, there’s so much more guaranteed to keep us entertained. We know we shouldn’t gloat but we can wait to hang in the Louder Lounge where you’ll find us swapping glad rags for vintage in Cupboard Love, topping up our tans courtesy of St Tropez, having a festival face-off with the MAC girls and having our talons a thorough overhaul at the brilliant WAH […]

Satsuma

Soho’s much missed urban-style restaurant Satsuma, Japanese flagship of the Royal China Group is re-opening on 29 August following an extensive refurbishment. The signature colour scheme of orange and grey will remain and the two floor restaurant will retain its floor-to-ceiling glass frontage overlooking Wardour Street’s quirky boutiques but the redesign will take in ultra-cool futuristic pod-style seating enclosed on four sides with windows in the roof for subtle lighting. There’s a new menu as well to match seeing Satsuma's authentic Japanese cuisine shifting its focus to specialise in Japanese Katsu curries. The idea is that you build your own […]

The Bulmers Cider Garden

If you’re one of those who harbours instantly forgettable memories of drinking White Lightning on park benches in your youth, fear not. You’re not alone. This weekend, reverse those recollections and head to the Bulmers Cider Garden on the Southbank, where live music by the house band, Sun Lovin’ Criminals, will accompany every sip of the Irish cider you take. At the riverside garden, visitors will also be privy to free samples of Bulmers’ brand new cider, Bulmers Nº17, which contains crushed red berries cut with a shot of lime. As it’s open from 11pm – 8pm every day until 14th […]

Union Jacks

Fifteen, Jamie’s Italian, Barbecoa in the new One New Change at St Pauls, Recipease, Fabulous Feasts catering; a Ministry of Food with more clout than any initiative the government could ever hope to realise; and cookbook and tv franchises that make Martha Stewart look like an amateur. The power Jamie Oliver exerts over the food industry is phenomenal. He controls what we eat when we’re out, what we eat at home, what we buy at the supermarket, what we watch on TV and all that without falling foul the Competitions Commission and while retaining that cuddly caring sharing, loving husband […]

The Shop NW10

There’s a new bar with a difference just launched in Kensal Rise’s cool Chamberlayne Road. The Shop is a celebration of fine drinks, great local atmosphere, music, art and all things ‘once loved’. The venue will host music nights with named DJs and acoustic sets and cocktail master-classes. The concept is the lifelong dream of Luke Allen, musician and ex-bar manager (The Cow, The Westbourne and Harry’s) and screen printer and photographer, Ben Magid, who wanted to create a space that locals could feel part of, get involved in and one that constantly evolves with them. The duo are inviting […]

Sweden in Soho Square

Believe it or not, there’s more to Sweden than Mikael Blomkvist and his sidekicks. This summer, London is being treated to one of the country’s lesser known traditions: Fika, the Swedish ‘high tea’. A pop-up ‘parlour’ (in the form of a free picnic and a bookable one, too) will be setting up shop in Soho Square on 24th, 25th and 26th August, between the lunchtime hours (making it worker friendly) 12.30pm and 2.30pm. Enjoy Fika’s traditional 7 cookies and a cup of hot coffee made especially by a team from the Southern Swedish holiday destination of Skane, led by the world famous pastry chef, Jan Hedh […]

Talisker Sail-In Cinema

If you’re heading to Cowes at the weekend make sure you stop by Talisker whisky’s sail-in cinema on August 12th. We’re talking a floating movie drive-through with a huge screen showing Master and Commander for sailors moored up on the Solent. However, there will also be a Talisker catamaran which non-yachties can join to watch the film… AND enjoy Scotch whisky tastings while they’re at it. Being the only single malt Scotch whisky made by the sea on the Isle of Skye (with a hint of seawater saltiness don’t you know), there is a connection here – albeit kind of […]

The Ritz Manicure

With nail colours from Trafalgar Square to Pimlico on the market, we thought we'd seen it all – until we heard about an entire manicure created for and named after the iconic Ritz Hotel. The new Ritz Manicure has been conceived in partnership with Jeff Pink, inventor of the French Manicure and founder of the Orly Professional Nail Care range who has also created a signature gold nail lacquer called The Ritz – available exclusively at The Ritz Salon. The treatment begins with a fragrant hand soak, is followed by an olive grain exfoliation, massage and skin-softening wrap. Last comes […]
