Ping Pong’s V&A cocktail launch

This Autumn, the V&A has collaborated with Ping Pong to create a selection of cocktails to celebrate the opening of the Masterpieces of Chinese Painting 700-1900 exhibition, which is due to launch at the V&A in late October. The cocktails are available now and will include two inspired by Wang Mian’s ‘Fragrant Snow at Broken Bridge’ and the V&A’s silk banner paintings: the Plum and Liqourice Sour, which is a deep purple short drink with intense plum and liquorice flavours, and the Smoked Apricot and Spicy Almond cocktail, a spicy long drink underpinned with soft apricot tones. Greyhound on the Test Hotel Review

On Friday afternoon we headed west out of London and soon enough we found ourselves in the quaint city of Salisbury in Hampshire where the Greyhound on the Test is situated. The Greyhound on the Test is a hotel, restaurant and pub offering guests a peaceful respite in the tranquil surroundings of the Hampshire countryside. The rooms, of which there are only 7, are all decorated sweetly and in theme with the cottage like feel to the building. Don’t let the décor fool you though as all of the rooms have modern facilities like en suite baths/showers, flat screens with […]

The Meat Co

After a mesmerising walk from the Car Park below Westfield shopping centre out on to the Restaurants South Terrace, it took a few wrong turns until we found the bright red awning ‘The Meat and Wine Company’. As I entered the large, spacious downstairs bar, it rather reminded me of a big East-African hotel lobby. However, as I gazed around, the orangey, mud and red coloured walls in this mellow lit room were decorated in subtle but classy mask like African decor. We were welcomed by smiley staff who guided us upstairs to the restaurant, lift or stairs – we […]

£10, 10 courses, 10 years

Tom Aikens is operating a lottery for a one-day-only 10-course tasting menu for £10 to celebrate the restaurant’s 10th anniversary.  Aikens has delved deep into his recipe archive to develop a one-off, 10-course tasting menu featuring some of his most memorable and favoured dishes from the last decade including: 2003’s Roast scallops with poached grapes and pernod, grape juice and acidulated fennel. “2003 was a very exciting time for me – I was very nervous about the opening as I had been out of the London restaurant scene for three or four years but we were fully booked from the […]

Bunnychow

Next London food truck sensation to set up permanent shop is the South African bunnychow, in Shoreditch’s BOXPARK. The bunny chow is said to have been invented in 1940’s Durban, when Indian sugar workers were looking for something sturdier than rotis to transfer their lunch from pot to plantation. Legend has it that one bright spark hollowed out a loaf of bread, filled it to the top with curry and the bunny was born. However it started, the trend soon spread across South Africa with bunnies hopping up all over the country – some filled with spicy veggies and some […]
