Balthazar in Covent Garden

Keith McNally, eastender turned impressario of the NYC restaurant scene, is already in bed with London’s own Richard Caring and looks set to open his first London venture in Covent Garden’s former Theatre Museum – Caring pipped Wolseley owners, Chris Corbin and Jeremy King to that particular post earlier this year. And while there’s still the little matter of Caring’s first attempt at planning permission being refused from the council, everyone is confident that a few tweaks will win over any pencil-pushing detractors. Latest (eighth!) opening is the boutique chain’s new Covent Garden branch in Wellington Street with a ninth site in Canary Wharf, an extremely imminent prospect. From small beginnings three years ago in Kensington High Street, Tom Byng’s winning formula has gone from strength to strength, winning the Observer Food Monthly’s Best Cheap Eats Award last year. Simplicity is key for this through and through British burger phenomenon.
