Ben Eine at Graphic

With a couple of real live Banksy originals (flanked by security, natch) popping up in Oxford Street’s HMV to promote the reclusive graffiti artist’s dvd release, Exit Through the Giftshop, street art is big news once more. Golden Square’s Graphic bar collaborates with a different artist every six months to change its look and showcase new artwork. And this month it’s the turn of Ben Eine who shot into the public consciousness when David Cameron gave one of his prints to Barack Obama and has even collaborated with Anya Hindmarch this year on some cool graphic totes. Inspired by the […]

W needs you!

London’s forthcoming W Hotel is fast gaining an attention grabbing reputation that would put many reality show contestants to shame. Now Mr W is turning svengali and setting himself up as the hospitality industry equivalent of Simon Cowell meets Sir Alan Sugar. So while some hotels might advertise on Gumtree for new staff, things are done a bit differently at W. The hotel has just launched a recruitment drive to fill two vacant concierge positions – aka the W “Insiders”. Applicants are invited to upload footage of themselves answering questions posed on W’s dedicated recruitment website around key areas: fashion, […]

The colours range from deep jewel tones, to acid brights with a good selection of easy to wear neutrals. The range is heavy on the shimmer. There’s a selection of baked products in the oh-so-popular style of the MAC mineralise range – but at a far more affordable price (baked bronzers are £6, blushers are £5 and eye shadows £4.50). […]

Thames Festival

Once you’ve battled through all the government approved jargon about celebrating our unique cultural diversity, bringing people together and increasing appreciation of the river and its environment – the weekend’s Thames Festival actually sounds rather fun. Ok, Boris and co need to justify their expenditure somehow but it’s basically an illuminated night procession and a massive pyrotechnics display on the river. Well if you’d said that in the first place… The Sunday Night Carnival promises huge illuminated floats, torch-lit prehistoric creatures, bands, musicians and over 2,000 dancers– all parading by lamplight along on a traffic-free Embankment. The procession culminates in […]

The scent of entertainment

It’s not often you get a posh department store courting the tabloids but Harrods’ new BFF is none other than The Sun newspaper. The red top has collaborated with parfumier Roja Dove on a brand new fragrance called Buzz which claims to have bottled the essence of pure entertainment! The scent embodies the glamour of a movie premiere and the excitement of a red carpet line up mixing the effortless style of Sarah-Jessica Parker with the charisma of Sophia Loren, the intoxicating sass of Beyonce and the girl-next-door charm of Cheryl Cole. Hakkasan Mayfair

Alan Yau’s phenomenally popular concept restaurant, Hakkasan has been drawing crowds to Hanway Place since it opened for business back in 2001. But now, practically 10 years on, Londoners are finally getting a long anticipated second branch in Mayfair. Previously, expansion has been concentrated on US and UAE markets with branches in Miami and Abu Dhabi. Yau sold the majority shares to the Abu Dhabi investment group Tasameem in 2008 but the brand is still going strong. Come November, Hakkasan is launching just off Berkeley Square in Bruton Street and promises to bring its Michelin-starred modern Cantonese cuisine to a […]

Who says that expensive shoes aren’t a good investment? Mews of Mayfair is teaming up with Piper Heidsieck Champagne and Christian Louboutin during London Fashion Week (17th-22nd September). Anyone dining at the restaurant who also happens to be wearing a pair of Louboutins, will receive a free glass of Piper Heidsieck fizz. Now, while you don’t have to be female to take advantage of this fashionable offer (those studded slip ons for guys really rock – albeit in a euro trash kind of a way), said shoe candy DOES have to be real. We’re sure that Mews’ stylish staff can […]

Kitchen envy at The Savoy

With The Savoy Grill due to reopen in October, even Ramsay's rivals are getting uber excited about the goings on at the all new Hotel. Tom Aikens has been tweeting repeatedly during an insider tour of the venue. Apparently there's to be a special chocolate room off the grand lobby both making and selling divine cocoa morsels. So enamoured is Aikens that he's also uploading twit pix like it's going out of fashion. But while some of us might salivate over the restored marble atrium replete with colonnades, it's the kitchens that have really got him going. "More pics of […]
