French Fancy

Alexis Gauthier is finally having his moment. The former chef patron of the Michelin-starred Roussillon has just opened his own eponymous restaurant in the Georgian Soho townhouse previously home to Richard Corrigan’s Lindsay House. With a pedigree extending far beyond his 12 year stint in Pimlico, he has also worked at Monaco’s Hotel de Paris under Alain Ducasse and consulted for the Mark Birley Group. Gauthier’s cuisine is famed for its simplicity and he sets out to enhance the natural flavour of the main ingredient, surprisingly, the vegetable! Three menus options will be available: a set lunch or pre-theatre menu, […]

Gucci launches Gucci Premiere

Gucci has launched a hand-made couture collection, Gucci Premiere, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival last Wednesday. Clients can now enjoy gowns inspired by Audrey Hepburn from her Breakfast at Tiffany’s fame or with a twist from Luchino Visconti’s The Leopard. The twice yearly capsule collections will be created in Paris (giving the brand some much needed chutzpa in my opinion) and special, on request gowns will be crafted by master embroiders and seamstresses.  Needless to say Frida Giannini was quick to point out that the house will remain true to its ready-to-wear roots and that they will not […]

We live in a time where nothing stays new for long. Indeed, ‘our day’, is characterised by a people fixated upon up-dating things and themselves. Modern mantra is ‘out with the old, in with the new’, i.e. Bye-bye Arlene Phillips, hello Alesha Dixon. Bin book, get ipad etc. Everyone wants to be a ‘newer’, more ‘improved’ version of themselves. To keep up to speed, you must have the latest techno gadget or cosmetic procedure and it can be exhausting trying to keep up. It is a wonder, then, that Elizabeth Arden’s legendary Eight Hour Cream is still a firm favourite in […]

Sushinho Below

Kings Road favourite, Sushinho, is branching out subterranean style with a new stand-alone venue beneath the main event at number 312. We were all a bit suspicious  to start with but are now complete converts to its divine Japanese-Brazilian fusion cuisine. More casual than its ground level sibling, here snacking reigns supreme as opposed to full on meals and small plates are the order of the day. Focal point is a sushi and robata bar serving sashimi and nigiri and fresh-from-the-grill skewers of prawns, butterfish, Wagyu beef and veggie options too. Tapas style dishes of baby back ribs with miso […]
