LVMH Plans for Expansion

LVMH, the world’s largest luxury group, with over 50 luxury brands, has revealed that due to the continued uncertain economic climate it plans to expand this year. “This year has started off well…I’m confident enough. Still, I think it’s necessary to be prudent,” said LVMH Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton chairman and chief executive officer Bernard Arnault  at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting. Despite reporting an 11.3 per cent spike in its first quarter revenues earlier this week, Arnault spoke of plans for “targeted expansion”, noting the importance of adopting a long-term approach to keep brands at the height of luxury. Laurent-Perrier Garden

Don’t forget to visit the Laurent-Perrier Garden at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show, designed by award winning Tom Stuart-Smith. Tom has designed a modern garden of subtle and varying texture that is both completely modern and intensely romantic. We’ve done a little research and it sounds incredible. As its centrepiece, it features an elegant bronze Pavilion, designed by award winning architect Jamie Fobert (www.jamiefobertarchitects.com) and constructed from folded sheets of patinated copper. The sculpture of the Pavilion contrasts with the purity and naturalism of its surroundings – an elongated pool of water, richly textural natural stone, curving pathways and vibrant […]

Volcano Chaos

As Iceland’s volcano continues to cause strife across Europe, the hotel industry has been left in organisational tatters – reservation systems have been thrown out the window whilst frenzied stranded travellers hunt desperately for any last-minute accommodation in the capital. Cancelled group bookings are a particularly strong blow for hotels, wiping out stretches of great business instantly. The Sofitel at London Heathrow Terminal 5 lost the custom of a group of 650, who had been due in for a convention. At times like these, both hotel owners and airlines alike have had to cater to their clients needs, with manager […]

Pierre Koffmann at The Berkeley

As we wave goodbye to the Berkeley Hotel's Boxwood Café, Matthew Freud may well have his work cut out as far as Gordon Ramsay is concerned. However, as one door closes another opens and happily, this summer marks the return of the old school super chef! Yes, following his uber-subscribed pop-up venture atop Selfridges department store last year (proving so popular that its run time was more than doubled!), Pierre Koffmann is making a long awaited reprise at The Berkeley, home from 1998 til 2002 of his renowned and three-Michelin-starred La Tante Claire. Entitled simply Koffmann at Knightsbridge, the new brasserie style restaurant […]

Bangalore Express

Rumour has it that Bangalore express, which opened  last year across Waterloo Station in London, is the first of many to come. The client behind it required a re-invention of the traditional curry house to match their vision for fast, healthy, Indian food.   Whilst the menu and decor of this modern, Indian fresh-food place have received mixed reviews, the interior is highly commendable, with an interesting use of the “scaffolding” used to build the booths and the upper level. Linear grooved walls with abstract painted blocks lead the eye through the inter-connecting spaces. Some have called it a ‘recipe for disaster’ and […]

Grace Kelly Launch Party

Last week saw an extravagant party sponsored by the suitably stylish Champagne marque, Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque to mark the launch of the Victoria & Albert Museum’s Grace Kelly exhibition. Guest of honour was the icon’s son, Prince Albert II of Monaco whose arrival brought Cromwell Road to a standstill with a cavalcade of police motor cycles. However, the promise of PJs but the bucket load (in fact the magnums formed an impressive tower in the middle of the central bar courtesy of Helena from Campbell-Bell!) not to mention a couture fest including a Van Cleef diamond tiara, Chanel, YSL, Balenciaga, […]

At home with Louis Vuitton

We’ll have to wait until 2012 to check into luxury conglomerate, LVMH’s new hotels but meanwhile, come 28 May, Louis Vuitton will have a new flagship in London when the brand’s Bond Street Maison opens its monogrammed doors to an expectant public. The Maison, designed by New York architect, Peter Marino, behind the iconic Champs-Elysées store is conceived as the home of a collector and connoisseur of the finer things in life typified, of course, by the group’s portfolio.
