Acne At Home

The iconic Swedish brand Acne has officially unveiled its new, somewhat unexpected, line of furniture in Paris at the Hotel Pozzo de Borgo. The supercool and edgy brand has thus far been best known for its precision cut denims and quirky dresses, however it’s maybe not such a huge surprise that they should foray into homewares too, their designs embracing all that can be said for an up-to-the-minute, urban-infused lifestyle. The brand in fact started in an arena outside of fashion – as an advertising and graphic design firm – so the adventurous design streak has always been present. The […]

The Bentley Hotel

Yes, with Valentine’s Day approaching fast as one of cupid’s darts, love is officially in the air – as is a mild note of panic as men across the capital (sorry to be sexist but it’s your job to sort out V Day ok?!) deliberate the merits of flowers v jewellery (the answer is both btw). However, with the big day falling conveniently on a Sunday, you really can’t go wrong with a romantic weekend break at a top class London hotel. It doesn’t matter if you live in the capital already. In fact, there’s real illicit pleasure to be […]

The Beckhams for Sport Relief

The Beckhams are taking their notable fashion credentials and applying them to a very worthy cause this year by designing the charity t-shirt collection for the massive fundraising initiative Sport Relief. The t-shirts, available in various styles, all feature the Beckhams for Sport Relief logo which is lovingly made up of the footprints of each family member. Indeed the Beckham brood fully took to the challenge, wielding spray paint upon canvas to create a unique design piece from the famous family. Victoria described it as a ‘fulfilling project for us to work on and incredibly special for us to have […]

Perricone MD

Seduced by scented moisturiser, glittering nail varnish and sparkling make up, the idea of buying ‘neck cream’ is normally lower down on people’s list of must-haves.  However, once this area is brought to our attention, there’s little wonder it inspired Nora Ephron to title her book “I feel bad about my neck.” Dr Perricone, owner of Perricone MD the successful cosmetic line, has spent several years researching this common problem and his final components have a 97% clinical improvement record, as well as a 77% reported improvement in elasticity.  This new neck firming moisturiser softens neck creases as well as firming […]

A Brilliant Proposal

Avoid the wrong ring, wrong guy scenario…stylishly Remember that infamous episode of Sex and the City, when Aiden gave Carrie the “wrong” ring? And that infamous discussion amongst the SATC girls over Cosmopolitans about how the “wrong ring” spells “wrong guy”? Ask any woman and she will tell you that jewellery is a very personal matter and always difficult to get right. So ladies, why on earth do we leave it down to the man in our life (who frankly, many of us are reluctant to let loose on the task of choosing wallpaper) to pick the most important ring […]

Out With The Old

For some, New Year’s resolutions may already have fallen by the wayside but not so acclaimed chefs Atul Kochhar and Mikko Kataja. Yes, 2010 marks a new beginning for two of the capital’s favourite restaurants, Berkeley Square’s Benares and The Avenue of St James. Last year a devastating fire forced Kochhar’s renowned Michelin starred Benares to shut up shop in September but it has now risen anew like a phoenix from the ashes with an exciting redesign of epic proportions. The new look restaurant boasts a Chef’s Table, Sommelier’s Table plus impressive new private dining facilities, making a total of […]

OUT OF CONTEXT

After spending many years photographing iconic public figures doing something that made them happy, photographer Lorraine Goddard yesterday revealed her years of work at the exhibition ‘Out Of Context’ at the Getty Images Gallery.  The aim of the exhibition is to raise positive awareness of mental health and reduce the stigma surrounding such illnesses, like manic depression. The likes of Sophie Dahl and Vivienne Westwood have been snapped doing that them out of contex; from drinking a good old cuppa to having a snuggle with your hubby.  The exhibition starts in London until the 30th January, before touring the UK […]

Material Girl

BBC1’s new flagship fashion drama, Material Girl, is the most derivative and badly cast piece of claptrap to have graced our screens for, like, forever.    From its opening humdinger:  “Davina Bailey’s bringing in the A List how does she do it – two year’s ago she couldn’t get arrested” it was one interminable catwalk of clichés. If the first line of the Beeb’s turgid adaptation of Imogen Edwards Jones’ Fashion Babylon had us reaching for the remote, by the end of 60 minutes, we were reaching for the gin bottle detox or no. GMTV’s fashion segment has more credibility. […]

Roll up roll up

Roll up for two big shows that opened in the capital this month. In the Albert Hall it’s famous troupe, Cirque du Soleil performing their Varekai show which tells the spellbinding tale of a young man who falls from the sky into a magical forest of fantastical creatures and embarks on the adventure of a lifetime. The show is packed full of jaw-dropping acrobatic choreography – not bad for an act that began with a band of 20 street performers back in 1984. But over in Endell Street, it’s a different story. Let us present Circus, an extravaganza of a […]
