Russell and Helen

Russell Crowe and Helen Mirren swished down the red carpet last night at the Empire cinema for the premiere of their new film State of Play. Both actors looked preened and polished and laughed together playfully on the carpet defying their years and showing the younger stars how a masterful show between co stars is executed. 'I got to boss Russell around which was fabulous,' cooed Mirren, clearly loving every minute. 'If you ever get bossed around, I recommend you get bossed around by Helen Mirren,' replied a cheeky Crowe, flashing his aviators. The sun shined well into the […]

Model clothes horse

No surprises to learn that horsey royal Zara Phillips has decided to team up with outdoor label Musto by becoming the face of their brand. Princess Anne’s daughter said ‘I wear Musto clothes all the time and have done for years, so to agree a formal partnership is fantastic.’ She is seen smouldering in the shots which were taken in Devon.  ‘They make the best performance clothing for riding and sailing, and for out and about in general. It can be the wettest, coldest day out riding and I know I’ll be kept totally warm and dry,’ she added. But […]

Lynn Barber on the telly

Delightful news for fans of gritty writer and notorious meanie Lynn Barber. She is launching her memoirs this summer under the virtuous title An Education. Presumably this must mean she has learnt some useful life lessons along the way (but hopefully not too many(!)) which she has penned following the success of her long article for prestigious magazine Granta. This should be full of juicy tales of Barber as a young girl when she became mixed up in what her publisher calls the ‘louche semi-criminal world’ of 1960s London. Look out for the BBC drama that will follow the book’s […]

M&S tries out Zandra

And so it appears that M&S has hauled in yet another top name into the fray. The unconventional Zandra Rhodes is the latest designer to create a capsule collection for the high street store that will launch on May 7. She said: ‘I am thrilled to see my prints and their beautiful clothes reach a wide range of consumers.’ She follows Sex and the City stylist Patricia Field who helped the chain shake off its mumsy image last year. The collection includes swimwear; a racy snakeskin cut out swimsuit has already been picked out as a favourite, a bright orange […]

Prada opens in Madrid

This April Prada has opened yet another store. This time it is in prime location, Calle Serrano, Madrid, also known as a haven for the luxury shopper. Replacing the original store, opened in 1986 and situated just round the corner, the new store holds only women’s clothing, while the old store will be refurbished and reinvented to sell the men’s collection. Designed by architect Roberto Bachiocchi, the interior remains faithful to the ubiquitous Prada theme. The Handbook Birthday Party

Last week The Handbook celebrated their first birthday party. Held at the Valmont club just off the Fulham road, the evening was brimming with writers, designers and media kings. With such a successful turnout, the normally intimate Valmont was soon overflowing with guests dining on oysters and champagne. Address books were out and it was finally a chance for all the members and supporters to meet up and chat. With such an eclectic gathering there was plenty of lively discussion and useful networking. Ice sculptures, cocktails and short dresses all marked the start of spring and the revellers were keen […]
