Aperol Spritz Pop-Up to Open Complete With Aperol Canal

The biggest drink to come out of Italy? Could be Prosecco or…is it Aperol? Sure, there might be a whole restaurant dedicated to one, but the bright orange, bittersweet aperitif is getting ready for its summer pop-up, The Aperol Big Spritz Social and it looks mega. Setting up shop at the Shoreditch Electric Light Station (just off Hoxton Square) from the 31st May until the 2nd June and then from the 6th to  9th June, the pop-up will be home to an ‘Aperol orange’ canal which you can row down – all very Willy Wonka-esque, a slide, a Vespa carousel […]

Savage Garden: The New City Rooftop Bar

Savage Garden, not just that Australian duo who sang classic 90s hits like Truly Madly Deeply and To the Moon & Back, but also now a new sky-high bar opening in the City. Who knows whether the founders are mega fans of the pop duo or are inspired by author Anne Rice’s quote, ‘beauty is a savage garden’, but what we do know is that it is going to be a study in experimentation and temptation, a twist, botanical world set 12 storeys above the streets of London. Sitting on top of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London – Tower […]

Europe’s Longest Bar Hosts Champagne Masterclasses

“That’s what I go to school for, Even though it is a real bore” sang Busted in their Ofsted-nightmare-scenario hit song (sidebar: we actually had a Miss Mackenzie at our school and this song was wholly inaccurate). But what I definitely would go to school for is Searcys Champagne School, which has just arrived at St Pancras Brasserie and Champagne Bar by Searcys. Famously the longest Champagne bar in Europe, the new Champagne school will offer masterclasses so that guests can learn all about Champagne and English sparkling wines, either as part of ticketed events or as a private party and making best use […]

A New Restaurant ‘Brand’ Arrives from Los Angeles

The man behind Zuma restaurants, ROKA, Oblix and Florida’s ETARU has just launched a new project, INKO NITO. And judging by the the fact they’re dubbing it a ‘new restaurant brand’, we suspect this might be the birth of another global phenomenon. The brainchild of Rainer Becker and chef Hamish Brown, the restaurant launched in Los Angeles’ Art District in December and now comes to Soho’s Broadwick Street. So, other than a ‘brand’, what is it, I hear you wonder? It’s ‘unconventional Japanese robatayak’. And a glance at Wikipedia tells me that robatayak ‘literally translates as fireside cooking’. Okay, so tell me actual facts. […]

We Review: Cicchetti Covent Garden

What: This Covent Garden Italian restaurant is the third Cicchetti (after Manchester and London Piccadilly) from San Carlo Restaurant Group. New? It opened in 2014 when we first reviewed it. Where? 30 Wellington Street, Covent Garden WC2E 7BD www.sancarlocicchetti.co.uk On the menu: The menu is designed in a tapas style so even the mains are fairly small as you are expected to order a few dishes. It’s a classic Italian menu so pasta, pizza and cheese reign supreme with dishes like Lasagne al Forno, layers of pasta with slow cooked beef ragu; gnocchi gorgonzola in a baked parmesan basket and gamberoni […]

Awesome Afternoon Teas

The New Gin Themed Afternoon Tea to Land in Soho

Gin, it’s our favourite spirit (that’s a plural Londoners our, we don’t take sides here), it’s the epitome of the British summer drink, yep even Pimms is gin-based, a fact we should all know if we want to consider ourselves true Brits, so what could be both more summery and British than a gin themed afternoon tea? Perhaps the Royal Family eating it at a cricket match, but let’s not be pedantic here. Recently launched at The Soho Hotel, the Gin Mare G & Tea, the tea brings together the classic English afternoon tea with the Mediterranean flavours found in […]
