We’ve Been On The Boxsets Again: What We Watched In June

Football? What football? We’ve not had a moment to even check the scores so deep are we in a Netflix binge. So here’s what’s been keeping us busy this month, from Love Island (season one: retro) to The Staircase. Kicking us off, Emily’s been topping up her Love Island obsession by dually watching seasons one and two on Netflix. If you’re a regular follower of this column you’ll notice that she’s watching something other than a murder mystery! Whoops, too soon, she’s also gotten into Happy Valley a… murder mystery. Love Island Series 1 and 2 Love Island. It needs […]

How Do You Like Your Eggs in the Morning? London’s Best Breakfasts

Breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day, or so they say, but it’s also the one we often “don’t have time” for. We’ve all seen the adverts of someone running out of the door, stumbling over shoes at the bottom of the stairs and grabbing a slice of burnt bread from the toaster, en route to work. Well, we’re here to play devils advocate and rid you of the 11am tummy rumbles at the work desk, to shout about some absolute breakfast hot-spots and must-visits across the capital. When Dean Martin asked us how we liked our eggs in […]

The Best Pubs Nestled in the New Forest

As the country bumpkin that I am, born and bred in the New Forest, I thought I would impart some village dweller wisdom to those lesser informed. The New Forest is a hot-spot for a good old country pub (think pie and ale propped up on a wooden bench). So to help visitors out, as they stumble past ponies and get wellies stuck in cattle grids, I’ve given you the gift of hidden gems to quench that exploration thirst. Thank me later! The Oak Inn What: The Oak Inn Why: Nothing gets more countrified than The Oak Inn…but then again, […]

Not Your Usual Summer Reads

So, summer is upon us, don’t look outside just take my word for it, and therefore the official season of lounging by the pool/sea/garden paddling pool with a good book is too. When looking for good book recommendations it seems they are saturated, for women at least, with romantic novels and perhaps a thriller thrown in for good measure. To this I say no more! We are intelligent beings who need to be challenged with our reading material, no longer shall we hide our copy of 50 Shades Darker in shame. Let’s up our game and sink our teeth into […]

Here’s my list of top things to do when you visit us… Immerse Yourself In History Jakarta has a long history of being colonised, most notably by the Dutch. The result is a rich history to explore and […]

Food that’s in Fashion: Joe’s Café Relaunches

Joe’s Café looks like the type of place one might stumble across during a trip to pick up Miranda Priestly’s steak in Runway – smooth, sleek and unapologetically cool. Now, the much-loved city staple is relaunching under the direction of new head chef Anupam Som, after first opening in 1984. Housed within fashion store JOSEPH on Sloane Square, the fashion empire began in 1972 by the late Jospeh Ettedgui, and we’re grateful to him for feeding not only our appetites, but our fashion cravings too. The new menu includes starters of marinated heritage beetroot, and smoked salmon with avocado, olive oil […]

The Mondrian’s Hidden Treasure: We Review Sea Containers

What: The Mondrian Hotel, Southbank, is quite the treasure trove and we sure got an opportunity to delve in during our visit. Sauntering in on a Tuesday evening, our first stop was the Dandelyan Botanical Suite, housed inside the hotel. We tried a mix of cocktails in the exquisite jungle looking room, one of which featured (and I kid you not) ingredients taken from black ants and zebra tarantulas. I wish I could say I despised the taste, but they were weirdly delicious. But, I digress, the point of our visit post creepy crawly cocktails, was to dine at Sea […]

This Restaurant is Making Our Cheese Dreams Come True

What: Our cheese prayers have been answered, no longer do you have to jump on a plane to the Alpes to stuff yourself silly on raclette, you can now hop on the tube and arrive at the Alpes in Brixton admittedly less snow and no skiing but let’s not be pedantic here. Why? Because street food favourites, Raclette Brothers have launched their first permanent restaurant at Pop Brixton, serving up raclette, fondue and small plates. New? Yes, they launched at the start of the May, you might think raclette is more of a winter dish, but you’d be wrong because cheese, […]
