We Review: Butchies

Opening a fried chicken stall in London is rather like putting on the YMCA at a wedding, you know it’s going to be a popular. Long queues saw Butchies move to Broadway Market’s main area the following year and then last November they made the move to Rivington Street and settled in their own permanent chicken coop.  Where? Kebab Awards 2018: The Best Kebabs In Town

The Oscars was nothing: Monday night celebrates the sixth annual Kebab Awards. Last year the event was compared by Radio 1’s Scott Mills and Chris Stark, Jeremy Corbyn’s handed out prizes and everyone from Theresa May and Sadiq Khan through to C-list celebrities wants to be involved. And so it’s no surprise that the kebbalicious entries this year are pretty strong. The prize we’ll be watching closely is the fine dining category where a number of strong London restaurants are serious contenders. Here they are…

The Woman Bringing Italy To Soho

When is a delicatessen not simply a deli? When it’s also a restaurant! And Soho deli Lina Stores is about to open a second site, a pasta restaurant, in the biggest move for the store in its 75 year history and being led by a business woman and chef at the top of her game. Lina opened in the 1940s to provide homesick Italians with original ingredients from back home. Since then it’s done a roaring trade, not only keeping Italian Londoners cupboards stocked up, but also becoming a real hit with the locals too. We’ve been shopping at Lina […]

We Review: Gin And Jazz At The Waldorf Hilton

What: Delicious gins, scrummy canapés and… all that Jazz. New: The Waldorf Hilton has been a symbol of British heritage set in the heart of Covent Garden since the 1900’s. So no, we couldn’t say it was new. The Gin and Jazz evenings, however, are fresh on the scene. Where: The evening itself happens in the Good Godfrey’s bar and lounge, which is directly to your right as you enter through the main doors. Fint it at The Waldorf Hilton, Aldwych, WC2B 4DD, www.hilton.com. The Look: Long cushioned bench-seats stretch along two sides of the room and individual tables are set up […]
