You’d be forgiven for thinking that Tom Oldroyd’s new restaurant, The Duke of Richmond was set to open in South West London. However, you’d be wrong, it will actually open in Hackney. Having originally opened in 1841, Tom will be restoring the site to its former glory in time for alfresco drinking this summer (it’ll feature a terrace with space for twenty). Divided into a dining room and a pub, the spaces will have their own menus, but they’ll both see seasonal British produce given a strong French accent. In the dining room you’ll find lamb sweetbread and asparagus vol […]
Rumpus Room at Mondrian London is proving that opposites do attract as they bring together two very different sides of London: 5* hotels and street food. Starting next Tuesday, the new monthly takeover series will see different street food vendors serving up innovative dishes at the rooftop bar every Tuesday. First up will be Other Side Fried who have created a bespoke menu which includes O.S.F: fried chicken, brown butter mayo, parmesan, garlic and lettuce and Honey Butter: fried chicken, smoked honey butter, bacon, pickles and lettuce. Taking over in May will be Burger & Beyond and then moving into summer […]
We always like it when a pop-up finds a permanent home, so we’re pretty freakin’ excited that Freak Scene is back and back for good. Created by Scott Hallsworth (along with Phar Shaweewan) last July after he left Kurobuta, the pop-up served up ‘curious’ Asian dishes inspired by Scott’s experience in Japan, Singapore and Malay and it was a big hit. Opening in Soho on 54 Frith Street, the menu will include favourites from the pop-up such as miso-grilled black cod tacos with sushi rice and scorched red chilli; chicken-fried chicken with peanut soy and cucumber pickles and a honey-hoisin […]

An entire festival dedicated to cheese; the sexiest words known to mankind? Quite possibly. Cheese Street NW5 will be a glorious day focusing entirely on the delicious yellow stuff at Parliament Hill Farmers Market on Hampstead Heath. The titillating folk behind such a concept is London Farmers Market who will be showcasing the best Britain has to offer, welcoming local and sustainable food traders, as in keeping with London Farmers Market’s ethos. Dip your toe in the cheese lifestyle with sampling sessions and plenty of tasters from ‘Cheese Angels’. Famous cheese faces like Mac to the Future and The Cheese Truck will be […]
2018 may be the year of the woman, but it is also the year of Harry and Meghan’s wedding. As you can imagine the whole world is running around like looneys planning for the big day and frantically trying to figure out how they can best use it to their advantage. Speaking of, Ritorno has curated a collection of Royal Wedding cocktails, using the happy couple as inspiration. To start things off we have a rather romantic number called the Prince and the Showgirl, try and contain the wistful sighs. Using Harry’s love of vodka and infusing it with ginger […]
TT Liquor the drinks emporium on Kingsland road is launching a new cinema tomorrow. Nestled in the middle of Shoreditch, the bar will be serving cocktails and more specifically White Russians. We’re talking drinks here for any of you literalists, so you can unfurrow that brow. So why are they reeling out the White Russians? Well, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of The Big Lebowski, TT Liquor will be christening their cinema with a special screening of the iconic film. As White Russians are Dude’s favourite drink it is only fitting that you be able to sit and enjoy […]

We know so much about the changing political situations in Burma that it comes as a bit of a surprise to realise that we understand so little about the culture, if someone asked you who Aung San Sui Kui is, you’d (hopefully) have no difficulty in identifying her. If someone asked you what food they eat in Burma, you’d likely struggle. Which is one of the reasons Lahpet is important, a Burmese restaurant opening in Shoreditch next month. The other is the brilliant food. Lahpet has proven itself over the last year with its year-long Hackney popup, and now they’ve […]
