Bar That Inspired Agatha Christie, Returns

To visit Flemings is to experience history in the present. As the hotel approaches its 170th birthday the hotel bar, Manetta’s, has been restored to its 1930s splendour. Manetta’s caught the imagination of writers such as Agatha Christie, who immortalised it in At Bertram’s Hotel and Sarah Helm, who used the bar as a backdrop in A Life In Secrets, a cloak […]

What? To celebrate their fifth anniversary in London, Balthazar has launched a new tea – The High Five Afternoon Tea. Head Pastry Chef Régis Beauregard has looked back over the cakes of the last five years, to find the most popular, the cakes that always get a “high five”. I say, “high five” because I don’t think anyone has ever actually high fived during an afternoon tea. New? The High Five Afternoon Tea is relatively new, the restaurant itself has been open for five years and across the pond they’ve been feeding New Yorkers for 20 years now. Where? In […]

Top UK Restaurants Help the Homeless

£8.2 million, that’s how much StreetSmart has raised in 20 years for homeless and vulnerable people. How? Through the simple idea of adding a voluntary £1 to diners’ bills throughout November and December. Because as we start to drink more Prosecco than usual and gorge ourselves silly on mince pies in the run up to Christmas, around 4134 people on a single night in England will be sleeping rough. That number has increased by 134% since 2010. Partnering with Deutsche Bank, the StreetSmart campaign will be donating every penny of every £1 raised to local charities across the UK.  There […]
