Bardou Express Blow Dry Bar Launches

Bardou Express Blow Dry Bar has recently launched their London pop-up located in the exclusive neighbourhood of Kensington where they specialise in blow dries. We just hosted our annual Christmas party and obviously wanted to look our finest as we downed copious amounts of alcohol in celebration of the festive season so turned to Bardou for some much needed coiffing. We had meticulously picked out our outfits and done our best with our make-up but when it comes to hair, and doing something other than straightening or harassing with curlers, we were pretty clueless – luckily the girls at Bardou […]

Sanook Spa Facial Review – What We Thought

If you’re anything like me you wince every time you’re slapped in the face by a blast of dirty underground air. Throw in the Autumn chill and dry indoor heating and the idea of a facial was most welcome. And what better time than National Chocolate Week when Sanook Spa were offering a special Chocolate Facial. The spa is in the basement of the 5 star Courthouse Hotel, just down from Liberty. Much smaller than I expected, it was very well equipped and I’d imagine that during the day it would be very peaceful. I arrived at 6pm, flustered and straight from […]

Spectre Premiere and Lunch at Gaucho

Steak favourites Gaucho are kickstarting their new premiere season with the slickest man on the silver screen. Bond is returning full-force when Spectre is released nationwide on 26th October and what better environment to gasp at his bravery/heroism/good looks (delete as applicable) than Gauchos slick monochromatic restaurant at the O2.  A Belvedere Vesper Martini masterclass will start the day before a two-course meal with Argentine starters and, yep, no surprises here, steak. Opulent white leather seating, sparkly glass chandeliers and glossy black tables provide the perfect setting for suave secret agents and glamorous Bond girls. OK we can dream on […]

Wahaca’s Day of the Dead Fiesta

In Mexico, Day of the Dead is celebrated with face paint, marigolds and foodie offerings to passed loved ones, and in London… we have DJs, bands, debates, immersive theatre and a whole lotta great food. Of course such a fiesta is being put on by Wahaca which means that no dancer will go unfueled. Traditional style stalls will be serving Mexican market tacos, roasted elotes (grilled corn), smokey barbacoa (pulled pork) and perhaps our favourite hispanic dish of all… churros. At this post-Hallowe’en party you can enjoy live music from The Horrors and Crystal Fighters and the more authentic sounds […]

BL-NK: Shoreditch’s latest venue

Shoreditch has just seen the arrival of BL-NK, a three storey, 4,500 square foot event space on Curtain Road and as we head into the party season, we think you need to know about it. The venue’s aim is to support local businesses, from providing spaces to work or hold meetings to hosting product launches, press days, parties, live music and plays – they’ve got pretty much everything covered. There are a number of different sized spaces for your events including a gallery and roof terrace and through their partners they can get their hands on a limitless supply of […]

Underground Film Club Returns

When a summer activity adapts for winter it usually involves moving it indoors, or perhaps adding a few heaters outside but some events really are better left to the warmer months. Rooftop cinemas don’t quite appeal so much when being attacked by an arctic breeze and clutching at blankets, but equally, bringing this inside pretty much constitutes a normal cinema. The people behind Rooftop Film Club are taking their popular pop-up film club underground for the colder months, to be held in the Vaults at Waterloo. Well below the bustle of one of London’s busiest train stations, the Vaults play […]

K – West’s Chocolate Spa

This week promises all things chocolatey at The Handbook. In honour of National Chocolate Week hitting the capital there is a huge range of one-off events, pop-ups and special menus on offer, from the more standard chocolate tastings to the more unusual including chocolate sausage rolls. If we didn’t love chocolate so much we’d probably be a bit freaked out. If you really love chocolate, and I mean really love it and eating it just isn’t enough then how about being wrapped in it? Sounds a bit sticky but K Spa are promising a smooth experience with their Chocolate Spa […]

Comedy Meets Music at Scarfes Bar

Whether we like to admit it or not, listening to “I Can’t Make You Love Me” after a break up may trigger a little tear. OK, fine, many tears. Music can make you feel many things but we’ve got to say you’d be a little weird to admit it has ever made you laugh. If you think about it, comedy and music would really be quite a good pairing. Throw a glamorous hotel bar into the mix and you have yourself Comedy Notes at Scarfes Bar; the first musical comedy night in the UK hosted and founded by TV comedienne […]

After taking East London by storm with their hugely successful Jazz and Julep bar on Broadway Market, Kansas Smitty’s House Band is touring London’s Basement Bars to mark the launch of their debut record. The Basement Tapes Tour, taking place from 23rd September-24th November 2015, will travel round […]
