The World’s End Market

Remember us telling you about World’s End Market? You know the tavern that has been there for so long that it has given its name to the surrounding area? Good, well we went down to check it out its latest transformation. Situated at 459 Kings Road the outside has been returned to its former glory, with an ornate black and gold exterior. You enter through a heavy dark curtain guarded by a doorman; it all feels rather secretive for a restaurant. Inside they’ve gone for a 1930’s canteen feel, with a chequered black and white tiled floor, tiled walls and […]

Afternoon Tea with a Twist and a Tail at the Playboy Club

The Playboy Club is one of my favourite venues, perfectly combining opulence with a sense of fun. Walking into Salvatore’s Bar, the room is heaving with lavishness; plush gentlemen’s chairs and bottles of alcohol displayed in the glass cabinet that cost more than my car set the scene, which is interjected by raucous laughter at the bar as a cocktail master class is taking place. The bunnies are in their festive Santa suits, sashaying confidently around with beaming smiles. One of my favourite meals is afternoon tea; oh you didn’t know afternoon was a meal? Well it definitely is. The […]

South Kensington Club

New year new you, right? Welcome to the South Kensington Club opening in January in a former Georgian Music Hall which was more recently home to Ronnie Wood’s notorious Harrington Club. Extending into Queensberry Mews, the building was also the first London home and studio of the artist Francis Bacon. Founded by Luca del Bono, there’s to be a restaurant, adjacent café, programme of lectures and ‘experiences’ (more of that later) plus a fitness centre with a gym, pilates, yoga and private training studios alongside Russian Banyas and Turkish Hammams, London’s only salt-water Watsu Pool. The restaurant, open to members […]

Skylounge

Cinnamon scones, brandy butter, champagne and a Viking vodka pop-up can all be found at Skylounge this Christmas. Situated on the 12th floor of the Double Tree Hotel in Tower Hill, the lounge offers something for everyone and if you are looking for a Christmassy tea or a festive drink then definitely worth a visit. After checking out the views of London that can be seen from the terrace and taking the obligatory pictures, we decided that we would try the Christmas afternoon tea that was on offer. If you have eaten enough mince pies to feed Rudoloph this year, […]

Murakami

With 2015 only a matter of days away, we’re starting to look at what’s in store for London’s restaurant scene, starting with Murakami on St Martin’s Lane – a contemporary Japanese restaurant, set to open on the 5th January. Specialising in sushi, rolls, sashimi and dishes from the robata grill, we’ve heard highlights include yellowtail carpaccio with chili, smoked eel and avocado salad and a golden dragon roll. Those looking to just eat sushi can sit and watch the nigri and sashimi being prepared by the chefs at the dedicated sushi bar which sits 6-8 or if you’re after a […]

All aboard the Tequila Express

With a promotional video so hot that it got banned by Youtube, you can image what the actual nights at Sloane Square hotspot, Tonteria are actually like. As fans of all things saucy, The Handbook went and experienced an evening for ourselves – inhibitions were left at the door. Things start respectfully enough with tapas but suddenly we are descended into darkness as the shot train begins its journey around a wooden track suspended from the ceiling, delivering tequila to thirsty guests. From then on the party had officially begun, the DJ hit the decks, the lights were dimmed and […]

Dirty Detoxing

But don’t worry Christabel’s Dirty Detox Cocktails taking place on the 22nd January has been created to bring the best out in you – and who can say no to that? The evening will take place in a secret location only announced a few days beforehand […]

Lanes of London

Yesterday we escaped the cold and left the teaming hordes that surrounded Marble Arch on their way to Winter Wonderland and snuck into Lanes of London for their afternoon tea which has been given a bit of a Christmas makeover. The perfect setting for spending whiling away an afternoon, Lanes of London is rather as you’d expect a gentleman’s club to be with dark wood, wing back leather chairs, gilded mirrors and low lighting, it’s sumptuous without pretension. We were presented with the different loose leaf and herbal teas to smell before we made our choice, which I think is […]

Ametsa with Arzak Instruction

With the London restaurant scene as packed as it is, all too often it seems restaurants within hotels can get overlooked, which is a shame as some there are some real gems.  One such restaurant is Ametsa with Arzak Instruction at The Halkin, which serves up New Basque cuisine and is headed up by Executive Chef Sergi Sanz, with guidance from Elena Arzak and her father.  If her name sounds familiar then it’s because her family run the 3 Michelin star Arzak restaurant out in San Sebastian, Spain, which you’re bound to have heard of.   Although designed by the London – based […]
