Bleach Bar

You know Bleach over in Dalston? The coolest hair salon, with the brightest colours run by Alex Brownsell and Sam Teasdale, yep that one, well they are extending their east London empire with a pop-up bar just a hop, skip and a jump away from the salon which is launching this week and running for 10 weeks. The wonderful Lucy Carr-Ellison and Jemima Jones from catering company TART will be creating cocktails from seasonal fruit with combinations such as pineapple, chilli and mint. They also happen to have the most incredible names, who is up for a Wonky Direction? Or […]

Ben’s Canteen Earlsfield: Review

Chances are if you live in Clapham that after a heavy night you’ve dragged your sorry hung over head to Ben’s Canteen on St John’s Hill for one of their infamous brunches, ordered eggs or a burger and a round of Bloody Marys. Have you been to Ben’s Canteen over in Earlsfield though? Having opened earlier this year, the sister site is larger than its counterpart but still with that simple, laid back charm that Ben’s Canteen is known for. Though both serve evening menus, I feel as if this is the one I would choose to dine in at […]

Our favourite Afternoon Teas

For those of you who don’t know, back  in the early nineteenth century it is said that Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, complained of a ‘sinking feeling in the afternoon’ (at the time it was common just to eat breakfast and supper) and so she began to snack on sandwiches and little cakes. On returning to London, Anna invited the girls over to join her and so the tradition of afternoon tea was formed. To say the list of places offering tea now is extensive, is a bit of an understatment because London sure knows how to do an afternoon tea, but […]

Cocktails in the City

Cocktails, they’re a staple part of any Londoner’s diet, whether we’re celebrating or commiserating or just need one to get us through the week, cocktails are always in order. The only problem can be where to go, 1) there are so many bars and 2) as most of us know trying to navigate public transport after a couple of cocktails can often have entertaining results. Well hallelujah, for there is a saviour in this cocktail conundrum it’s called Cocktails in the City and it’s produced by B & H Group (they’re the guys who run the Prohibition and Blitz parties). Held […]

London’s First Wild Flower Walk

This year is the 125th anniversary of The Savoy but rather than expect a hefty haul of birthday presents as someone of 125 should, they are giving something back to London and in particular Britain’s bees. They are creating the capital's first ever central wildflower walk, River of Flowers Central London in partnership with social enterprise, ‘River of Flowers’ which is launching this month. The aim is to increase the planting of native wildflowers in the city and the awareness of green and floral spaces along the Thames. Dotted along the banks of the river, patches of wild flowers will […]

Caterina55 Review

Blink and you might miss Caterina55 amongst all the high rise glass towers in the Square Mile, a tentative sandwich board outside helps to guide in hungry bankers. Caterina55 offers authentic Italian food at a fast pace, with the emphasis really on fast food as reflected in the unwelcoming interior; this is not the place to head for a lazy lunch. Somewhere between a Pret and a canteen, Caterina55, has readymade sandwiches, baguettes and an assortment of mains, and beverages ready to go in chilled shelves where you then take your choice to the till to pay. You can also […]

Fields

If you’ve been to Balham you’re more than likely to have seen M1LK, well now it’s getting a big sister in the form of all-day café, Fields, opening later this month in Clapham Common. Run by Julian Porter and Lauren Heaphy, Fields will have space for 30 inside and an extra 80 outside on their heated terrace, so we can make the most of the last balmy evenings. As the name suggests nature and simplicity will be at its heart, so on the roof you’ll find their own garden and plant nursery where they will grow herbs and vegetables to […]
