Where to Go For Afternoon Tea: Some Of Our Favourites

In the early nineteenth century it is said that Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford complained of a ‘sinking feeling in the afternoon’, at the time it was common just to eat breakfast and supper, and so she began to snack on sandwiches and little cakes to curb her hunger. Today, the quintessentially English tradition is still as popular as ever and whilst  choosing a definitive list is arguably impossible, we’ve rounded up some of our favourites. The only question […]

Chop Shop: Review

Over in Haymarket the Chop Shop has just launched their new Sunday lunch set menu: a beef rib chop, roast potatoes, side and half a bottle of red wine for £35. We arrived late afternoon to find the restaurant had mellowed after a busy lunch service and there were just few a couples spending long, lazy afternoons with bottles of wine. The restaurant itself is long, narrow with tables for two down the side, at the end it opens out into a larger space where there was a mix of tables for larger parties. It is all very laid back, […]

Burns Night

Now for a quick history lesson; regarded as Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns – or Rabbie as he was known, only lived until he was 37 but in that time his literary accomplishments were great. His poems portrayed his love of Scotland, the beauty of his birthplace Ayrhsire, and his appreciation of haggis. So it is not surprising that when his friends started to celebrate the anniversary of his death on the 25th January, haggis took centre stage.  200 years later and come Burns Night, you are sure to find a veritable Scottish feast near you. From whisky cocktails, to […]
