Dub Jam

The first of next month welcomes Dub Jam to Covent Garden. The tiny Jerk BBQ & Rum Shack fuses the laid back beach vibe of the Caribbean, with tasty, contemporary Jamaican barbecue flavours and the sounds of reggae label ‘Trojan Records’. The kitchen will pump out a Trojan soundtrack from Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff to Rocksteady, Dub, Ska and Roots. Aiming to capture the spontaneity of a beach party, the interior features lights made from reclaimed buoys and tin-cans, stools made from beer kegs and car wheels, a shelf bar made from half a surfboard and cake display made […]

myhotel Bloomsbury Review

The Handbook escaped south west London and headed into central London to spend a night on Bedford Street at Myhotel Bloomsbury. Part of a group of boutique hotels, Myhotel Bloomsbury is meant to be a fusion of east meets west, although this theme wasn’t too apparent throughout the hotel, there were little nods to it here and there such as the names of the meeting rooms and a couple of pictures in the room, but had we not been told of the theme I don’t know if we would have guessed it. Although there is the serene, Asian-inspired Jinja treatment […]

Fashion, Flowers and Cocktails at One Aldwych

January’s gone (at last), February’s here and  that can only mean that London Fashion Week is on its way! In celebration of LFW and the new Somerset House exhibition Isabella Blows : Fashion Galore! luxury hotel One Aldwych and iconic fragrance Fracas have joined forces to create a dramatic floral installation. Inspired by the scent of Fracas, talented florist Mark Siredzuk has created an explosion of white magnolia twigs and masses of white amaryllis, resting on towering perspex plinths with trailing white asparagus ferns and pink roses.  The arrangement is surrounded by a curtain of black Fracas bottles suspended by thin […]

It has been extensively refurbished by Nick House and a team brought together from the best clubs in Europe and now also boasts adjoining sister venue, the uber exclusive Rusty Nail. Think interiors like a beautiful gothic chapel with a pulpit that doubles as a DJ booth, stained-glass stone windows, a reclaimed church organ and pews – not to mention suits of armour, tartans, whisky barrels and the Whisky Mist stag taking prime […]

FISHBone Pop – Up Review

Over in Notting Hill, Kensington Place have just launched a new two- month pop up – #FISHBone and never wanting to miss out, The Handbook braved the wind and rain to check it out. Unlike the rest of the restaurant, the pop up (which is in a little room at the back) is much more stripped back and informal, dark blue tones and candles teamed with neon signs and long trestle tables to give an atmosphere of part American diner and part nautical restaurant.  The menu is simple, a few main dishes, a couple of smaller extras and sides – […]

Brontё inspired afternoon tea Review

What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than having tea at the glorious Gilbert Scott? Without a doubt it is one of my favourite buildings in London: the grandeur, the faded Victorian glamour (it opened in the 1870s) and the rich colours so it only seemed right that we took a little trip there on Sunday to indulge in the Brontё inspired afternoon tea. Available until the 12th February the tea has been devised by General Manager and chef, Chantelle Nicholson and cult artist and creator of Visitoriana, Charlotte Cory and is a traditional Yorkshire Victorian tea which focuses […]
