B3 Designers Create Topolski Interiors

Located in the Hungerford arches of the Southbank Centre, Topolski Bar and Restaurant is a newly opened venue, which celebrates the highly regarded official Second World War artist. The restaurant offers a range of authentic, flavoursome food provided by Company of Cooks. Award-winning designers, B3 Designers, created the interior of the restaurant, making sure to install a scaffolding structure within the arches so that Topolski’s artwork can be displayed. Topolski’s utilitarian artistic approach is reflected in the design of the interior, which features plywood and soft wood battens, art crates, and reclaimed school desks. As well as displaying artwork, there […]

Fish Market Restaurant: Review

In amongst the high rise buildings of Liverpool Street and Bishopsgate, and the crowds on the streets is Fish Market restaurant; a little slice of nostalgic seaside fun. From the twinkling tea lights and lanterns, to the minimal, wooden panels and blue and white stripe awning, it stands out from the other buildings in the area, like well, a lighthouse and that’s why we love it. We were there to sample the Winter Terrace Fun Fair menu but we first dug into half a dozen prawns with garlic butter and a mountain of salt and pepper squid, which was just […]

The Berkeley

It’s that time of year again and The Berkeley’s Health Club & Spa is transforming its roof-top terrace into a pine-filled forest cinema where hotel guests and Londoners will be treated to winter classics on the big screen while nestling between warm down feather Moncler blankets and hot water bottles. Drink home-made hot chocolate and Berkeley mince pies to complete the festive atmosphere while watching winter classics such as Miracle on 34th Street and The Nightmare before Christmas. Skylon: Review

Having heard mixed reviews of Skylon I was intrigued by what would be in store when we escaped the winter chill of South Bank and headed into the restaurant last week. For a Tuesday night both the restaurant and grill were bustling, drinkers surrounded the bar and almost all the tables were full. Being situated in the Royal Festival Hall, means that there is a steady stream of those in the pursuit of culture looking for a pre-theatre or exhibition meal and there is no doubt as well that Skylon’s views across the Thames are definitely in its favour. Starting […]

Mark’s Bar comprises a collection of beautifully designed furniture that transforms into an operating bar that is completely moveable so can be relocated to different areas of the store. Says Broom, who was inspired by 1960’s America when entertaining at home was growing in popularity : “I have a great deal of experience in furniture, bar and high […]

Wildflower Café Review

After an exhausting weekend of battling the crowds in an attempt to get some Christmas shopping done, we nipped over to the newly opened Wildflower Café in Notting Hill for some Sunday afternoon tea and cake – as you do. We collapsed into some chairs in the shabby-chic café and were swiftly brought a comforting cup of tea and hot buttered toast with strawberry jam. Feeling revived and ready to devour some homemade cake, we opted for the chocolate fudge and pear and carrot and walnut varieties, and we were not disappointed: the slices were huge and frankly just what […]

The Imperial Review

A new all-day restaurant, ‘The Imperial’, has opened in Fulham, and we were bursting to try it out. So bright and early on Saturday morning, that’s just what we did. The lunch and dinner menus both look delicious, but we’re always on the look out for a new place in Fulham that does the perfect sleepy weekend breakfast/brunch, so that’s the meal we opted for. This was the first Saturday that The Imperial had been open for breakfast, so it was fairly quiet, but that doesn’t reflect the quality of the food or service. The restaurant is very modern and […]

Ping Pong: Review

Last week The Handbook headed over to Ping Pong at South Bank for a little bit of midweek dim sum. Arriving early on Wednesday evening the restaurant was already packed, to the point where it was almost hard to hear each other (a testament to the delicious dim sum and also their South Bank location) but we managed to secure a table for two and got down to ordering. The menu is made up of baked, fried, griddled and rice dishes, so we recommend getting a little bit of everything for a real smorgasbord of dim sum. If you’re not […]
