The Map Room

Claridge’s has unveiled The Map Room, a dedicated space for the business traveller designed by  British design workshop Linley. The focal point of the room, and the piece from which it takes its name, is a magnificent marquetry wall-size map of the world. Designed by Linley, it is crafted from macassar and walnut veneer and crowned by a bespoke steel clock sat on the Greenwich meridian. Drawing on the glamour of the golden age of travel, Linley’s design pays homage to the hotel’s Art Deco aesthetic with hand-crafted furnishings, from the signature Transatlantic Chair with its generous curves, to the […]

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea at One Aldwych

The sweet toothed in London must be praising Roald Dahl right now for having written Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, since its new musical adaptation has triggered a flurry of inspired puddings, menus and afternoon teas, including the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tea at One Aldwych in the heart of London. Reflecting the wit of Roald Dahl and no doubt Charlie’s wonder at the factory, the chefs have come up with a playful menu, that has been described as scrumdiddlyumptious and we agree. Choose from a range of teas, including Smooth Caramel and Midsummer Mango, or if you a […]

Megaro Bar Launch

On Tuesday, the Handbook went to join Megaro, Kings Cross to celebrate the launch of its trendy new underground boutique bar who’s indulgent interior meant we were a world away from the sweaty, summer hussle and bussle on the streets above. Part of the bar’s lavish interior is cleverly inspired by classic film sets with vintage tripods and directors’ chairs whilst the rest  heralds a photography “dark room” brought to life by vivid black a white developing images. Floor length red curtains create a network of secluded spaces if you're looking for somewhere to hide. The bar’s artistic decor is […]
