Brilliant Burgers at Blue Boar

The Handbook team headed over to Blue Boar smokehouse to try out their great menu which is inspired by American pit masters but uses only the best British ingredients, think pulled pork, burgers, and steaks. The restaurant itself is dark, with low lighting and decorated with little nods to its American and British inspirations. We started with grilled Caesar salad and the sautéed mushrooms with crispy duck eggs. Both were delicious although the Caesar salad which rather than being tossed together as they usually are came as baby gem lettuce split in half, drizzled in the dressing and parmesan, one […]

Café de Paris

‘Le Chat Noir’ was the original cabaret, grown in late 19th century Paris. In a blast from the past, the West End club Café de Paris hosts its English cousin, the Black Cat Cabaret; re-igniting the spirit of the first shows over a hundred years ago. Stepping into the nightclub is to be swallowed by an elegant, opulent whale. Descend down a curved staircase into the Titanic ballroom, a sparkling cavern of velvet and gold. Large tables are laid out for the show, and if a couple, you are seated with other couples – getting to know them is part […]

The Rooftop Café – Rising Above Our Expectations

Last Friday night The Handbook headed to The Exchange, and The Rooftop Café which lay within. Ironic that a rooftop café should nestle but nestle nevertheless it did given that it lay bang at the foot of the newly erected Shard.
