The Shaftsbury

Richmond’s former The Shaftesbury Arms has recently undergone a total redesign, new menu and name tweak to boot. With a nod to great British eccentricity, vintage pieces and old photographs are mixed with oversized Chesterfield wingchairs, Warhol-style prints of first class stamps and Union Jack detailing. Outside, an all-weather garden (with covered areas and heaters to keep out the chill) is decked in red, white and blue and there’s even a vintage trunk on the way out where you can grab a cosy blanket or two – just in case! Cold balls Antico

Bermondsey Italian restaurant Antico has added a kick to its dessert menu: homemade Campari gelato. However, until September, this is a special off-menu item and diners will have to whisper a secret and slightly embarrassing phrase to a waiter: 'have you got cold balls?' The cool and creamy concoction is made from the famous red Italian aperitif and is the brainchild of owner Nick Crispini and head chef Nicholas Schizas. Served in a frozen martini glass and accompanied by sugared lime wedges, it's a potent way to chill out as temperatures soar. The pink-coloured Campari gelato is whipped up in-house […]
