The Arts Club

Most glamorous relaunch of the season is surely the Arts Club in Mayfair’s Dover Street – the pre-launch dinner the other week saw a guest list including Mario Testino, David Bailey, Dinos Chapman, Thandie Newton and Gwyneth Paltrow. The new owners, property investor Gary Landesberg and restaurateur Arjun Waney (Zuma, Roka – say no more) tapped their celebrity friends to ensure the club was transformed into the perfect a-list hangout. We hear that Gwyneth Paltrow has collaborated on the venue’s design, producer supremo and newly-wed Mark Ronson, is Director of Music and even Stella McCartney cast her fashionable eye over […]

Quaglino Shots

Iconic London restaurant Quaglino's has just launched Photography at Quaglino's and is showcasing a series of striking images by photographer Roger Mavity in the bar. The photographer and former advertising executive also happens to be the CEO of Conran Holdings and his shots  are surreal and playful. "People say that my work is obsessed with women," he says. "But I would prefer to look at a beautiful woman than at a tax return." However in his capacity as CEO, we suspect he looked at his fair share of both. The bar is open til 1am Mon-Thurs and til 3am at […]

Word is circulating that Nightclub impresario Guy Pelly is expanding his flourishing ‘Public’ empire overseas in time for the 2011/2012 Ski Season. The original Public, on the King’s Road, Chelsea has proved so much of a hit since opening late last year that aspiring Chelsea-ites and holidaymakers in Verbier, Switzerland will be able to soak up the scene or enjoy a home away from home. Although the ink on the deal is barely dry the new 350 capacity club is destined to be a hit with the young and fashionable crowd après-ski when it opens in November.     www.public.uk.com

Bread Street Kitchen

Representing a new direction for Gordon Ramsay comes Bread Street Kitchen at One New Change, London. The restaurant and bar promises a relaxed dining experience set over a large warehouse-style location inspired by its East London environs. Informal in its approach, it’s open all day and in addition to the regular kitchen, the menu takes in dishes from a raw bar and a wood-burning oven too. The dramatic space has been designed by Russell Sage – in keeping with its industrial roots. We’re talking striking lighting displays, an exposed lift shaft and viewing platforms through the centre of the restaurant. […]

Bayswater, Clapham Junction, Angel, Hampstead, Maida Vale and now Wardour Street. As of today, William Chow’s Banana Tree group is spreading its wings or should we say leaves into the West End with his sixth and flagship London site. Malaysian by birth, Chow has travelled extensively around the region over the last two decades refining his menu and sourcing recipes and the ingredients which help create the layers of flavour in every dish. Navajo Joe

We never say no to a Mexican (the food and tequila that is – we reserve the right of refusal when it comes to anything else…) but every September there’s an even better excuse to indulge in burritos, shots and Mexican waves. September 16 marks the day in 1810 when Mexico gained its independence from Spain. All over Mexico it’s a time of national pride and a celebration of Mexico’s cultural identity. However, as with all good parties, the fun usually starts on the eve of the day itself. So on Thursday September 15, Covent Garden’s Navajo Joe will be […]
