The Dorsia

Since it takes its name from the ever-full fictional restaurant featured in Hollywood's American Psycho, one can only assume that South Kensington will be abuzz with nosy nocturnal revellers when The Dorsia finally swings opens its doors next week. Large swathes of interest won't be entirely unexpected. After all, anticipation surrounding the launch of this new private members' restaurant, bar and nightclub has mounted steadily throughout the summer – though curious chatter is most likely to have been what Nick Andreen and Fraser Carruthers, the men behind the venture, had always wanted. Ploughing a reported £2.4 million into what was […]

Bread Street Kitchen

Representing a new direction for Gordon Ramsay comes Bread Street Kitchen at One New Change, London. The restaurant and bar promises a relaxed dining experience set over a large warehouse-style location inspired by its East London environs. Informal in its approach, it’s open all day and in addition to the regular kitchen, the menu takes in dishes from a raw bar and a wood-burning oven too. The dramatic space has been designed by Russell Sage – in keeping with its industrial roots. We’re talking striking lighting displays, an exposed lift shaft and viewing platforms through the centre of the restaurant. […]

Banana Tree

Bayswater, Clapham Junction, Angel, Hampstead, Maida Vale and now Wardour Street. As of today, William Chow’s Banana Tree group is spreading its wings or should we say leaves into the West End with his sixth and flagship London site. It’s been over twenty years in the making but Chow’s passion, Indochinese food, lies at the heart of this labour of love. Malaysian by birth, Chow has travelled extensively around the region over the last two decades refining his menu and sourcing recipes and the ingredients which help create the layers of flavour in every dish. His interpretation of the cuisine […]

Navajo Joe

We never say no to a Mexican (the food and tequila that is – we reserve the right of refusal when it comes to anything else…) but every September there’s an even better excuse to indulge in burritos, shots and Mexican waves. September 16 marks the day in 1810 when Mexico gained its independence from Spain. All over Mexico it’s a time of national pride and a celebration of Mexico’s cultural identity. However, as with all good parties, the fun usually starts on the eve of the day itself. So on Thursday September 15, Covent Garden’s Navajo Joe will be […]

THIRTY SIX at Dukes London

At no. 36 Little St James Street, there’s a special new addition to London’s restaurant world. Aptly, its name is Thirty Six. But that’s where the unoriginality stops. Michelin-starred Nigel Mendham is in charge of this new restaurant, where the culinary focus is on the classic and the modern. It is normal to expect, for example, carrot cake served with liquid carrots and Salt Marsh lamb sticky ribs at one of the 36 (geddit?) chairs Thirty-Six owns. (Is it getting confusing yet?) As stylish as the quintessential hotel in which it is located, Mendham may have trouble accommodating everyone in at […]

SUDA

London’s latest Thai restaurant SUDA has just launched in Covent Garden’s new development, St Martin’s Courtyard off Upper St Martin’s Lane. The regional all day dining menu has been created by S&P, the company behind the popular Thai restaurant group Patara. SUDA takes its name from the Siamese rice bar, evoking the Thai culture of eating rice, aka ‘the bread of Thailand’, with every meal. Happily though, the menu doesn’t only feature rice. Rather it’s an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary Thai dishes. Providing a modern take on classic Thai cooking, highlights include Choo-chee pla, a sea bass red […]
