Tea at Tuttons Brasserie

People throughout the world have been enjoying the habitual ritual of tea drinking, for over 350 years. Since its materialisation, tea has transcended to become a vital staple in today's society, especially as more and more is discovered about the benefits of drinking it. When it comes to tea, the options are endless. Herbal (this category commands such a vast fleet, it really should be in bold), caffeinated, non – caffeinated, with milk, with sugar, with lemon, with honey – mild, strong, bag, no bag, loose, cream/no cream, iced, hot.. yes, I'm still on the topic of tea… So with […]

Punchdrunk at W London

Mr W was hosting parties for the likes of Kate Moss and Primal Scream even while Leicester Square's W Hotel was still a quasi building site so now that hotel, Spice Market resto and Wyld night club are open for business you wouldn't expect them to fade quietly into the London landscape now would you? Tonight sees W turn auditorium with a quirky performance from innovative theatre company Punchdrunk. As ticket holders and invited guests explore the rooms and corridors, they'll meet an intriguing cast of characters as they're drawn into an enticing world inspired by Hitchcock's 'Rear Window.' But […]

Bubbleology

If you haven’t heard about Bubble Tea yet you soon well. Come next month, Bubbleology, the UK’s first authentic Bubble Tea café, will open on Rupert Street in the heart of Soho. Originating in the 1980s, from a single stall in Taipei’s night market, the drink has become so popular that there are now over 8000 Bubble Tea cafes in Taiwan. Served warm or cool, Bubble Tea drinks have a red, white or green tea base […]

Quince

The murmurings first began last year but come May, fans of the charismatic tv chef and author Silvana Rowe can finally enjoy her mouth-watering cuisine for themselves rather than salivating over her slots on Saturday morning telly. Yes, the Mayfair Hotel’s Amba restaurant is being transformed into Quince by Silvana Rowe. An Eastern Mediterranean menu takes dual inspiration from ancient Ottoman banquets and modern-day Syrian spice markets and Rowe has spent agens scouring the gastronomic history of the great Ottoman Empire in Istanbul and wandering the street markets of Damascus and Amman for our culinary delectation. Dishes will be created […]

Missoni Kuwait

Right now, the fashion pack maybe somewhere between Milan and Paris but this week sees the launch of Missoni’s second hotel and it’s slightly further afield: Kuwait to be precise! Located close by the main shopping area of Kuwait City overlooking the Arabian Gulf, the 18 floor property is part of adjacent luxury boutique shopping emporium, the Symphony Centre. It’s designed by Missoni creative director Rosita Missoni and boasts richly patterned and vibrantly coloured interiors with oodles of those trademark prints. Rosita took inspiration from the brilliant blues and sparkling beaches of the Arabian Gulf and the resulting colour palette […]

NOPI

Yotam Ottolenghi has done it again and opened a brand new restaurant called NOPI. Just launched in Soho – north of Piccadilly Circus hence the name – and although we’re not sure if it will catch on as a London district like NoHo – it’s a little bit clever, no? This is Mr O’s first serious foray into proper sit down all day dining but while you may miss the brightly coloured deli counter and pink meringue window displays at first you’re unlikely to be disappointed for long. Cuisine is Mediterranean meets Middle Eastern with a spinkling of Asian seasoning […]

Proud2

We've done supper clubs, we've scoped out The Box and, Coachella notwithstanding, it's a long ole wait until the start of the festival season. So it's a good job that Proud Group is taking over the former Matter Club in the O2 then isn't it! Following a sell-out one-off party over New Year's Eve to test the waters (a resounding success) things have moved pretty sharpish and Proud2 (what else could you call it?) is set to launch on 3 March with an opening party packed with a stellar line up of live acts and DJ sets from The Mystery […]

Spuntino

They’ve kept us waiting on tenterhooks for a while but finally former Caprice Holdings Ops Director Russell Norman and partner Richard Beatty will launch Spuntino, the third in the Polpo triumvirate, in March of this year in Soho’s Rupert Street. Spuntino means little snack in Italian and just like the Polpo original and offshoot Polpetto above The French House, the namesake restaurant will serve up the small plates you might find in a Venetian Bacaro. However, where Spuntino parts company with its Italian brethren is that its small plates will fuse its traditional Italian fare with influences from down-town New […]

Leadenhall Market

You may just think of Leadenhall Market as being a cool place to shop in the heart of the City – where better to get your fix of high street classics Jigsaw, Reiss and Hobbs than beneath the market’s historic vaulted arches? However, the stunning space also plays host to fun events throughout the year and becomes available after hours for private or corporate hire for up to 600 guests! Leadenhall Market has its roots in the first century AD with a basilica and forum and has since become home to a poultry market, beef market and herb market – […]
