Vintage at Goodwood

There was lots that was 'good' about the hotly anticipated Vintage at Goodwood, the brand new multi-layered festival and brainchild of Red of Dead founder, Wayne Hemmingway. The Wailers, The Buzzcocks, The Noisettes, The Feeling and The Faces – reforming especially with Ronnie Wood and Mick Hucknall (stepping admirably into Rod's tartan trews)- were highlights as far as the acts were concerned. The Roller Disco had all the fun of the fair and midnight Friday at the warehouse rave tent saw Danny Rampling in da house. The Fashion Pavilion staged catwalk shows curated by the likes of Brix Smith Start […]

Karma Carbon Credits

The USA has long been known for its culture of fast food and fast cars. Why walk if you can drive and why cook if you can dial in a take-out? Well quite. So it’s extremely refreshing to discover Otarian, a healthy (ish) low carbon fast food chain from the Big Apple that’s opening next week on London’s Wardour Street. With sustainability at its heart, the new concept fuses a passion for the environment with a love of great food. According to founder, Radhika Oswal, Otarian is set to change the face of the London food scene, becoming the first […]

A Fashionable Feast

Bond Street has a brand new hangout for ultra fashionable foodies. Just opened for business in Fenwick of Bond Street is the elegant Bond & Brook which forms part of the iconic store’s three year expansion and beautification programme. In a make-over way beyond the capabilities of Gok Wan, a bespoke burnished pewter bar forms the centre-piece of a third floor destination venue that looks more like a concept fashion boutique than your average department store restaurant. Everything is white from the marble floors and walls right down to the tables and funky chairs and stools. There’s a separate area for […]

Festive Fever

It might feel a bit odd to be drooling over exclusive stocking fillers and sampling Christmas puddings while wearing flip flops, however, the glossy magazines always plan their December issues in the very height of summer. History Rewritten

Any attempt at rewriting history – whether it be from days of yore or that of more recent events – is generally considered a bit suspicious in a ‘Hitler was a lovely chap, really’ kind of a way. However, we’re all for reinterpreting the past if it makes things more interesting. Cue the speakeasy with twenty-first century know-how and governmental five-a-day directives that don’t make us yawn. The molecular mavens of the new Purl speakeasy cocktail bar have come up with a seriously modern take on the Prohibition-style watering hole. Purl is a new drinking den beneath a common or […]

East India Company

If you know your history – or history according to Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean at any rate, you’ll have heard of the fabled East India Trading Company. Referenced as the mafia-esque ‘Company’ in the swash-buckling trilogy, it was led by one Lord Cutler Beckett who made it his mission to eradicate piracy from the high seas. The real McCoy, though, was launched in 1600 when Queen Elizabeth I granted it the ‘royal charter’ along with the exclusive right to trade in spices, tea, coffee and luxury goods from the East. And with its own army, navy and […]
