PJs Bar & Grill – Pole Position in SW3

PJ's Bar and Grill on the fashionable Fulham Road is the original smoothie! Restaurateur and polo aficionado, Brian Stein, launched the hip venue back in 1990 as a testament to his love of good food and polo, the beautiful game of the beautiful people.  PJ's stands for Polo Joe's and the atmospheric Boston styled interior is awash with pieces of polo history from lovely black and white and sepia prints to winners' trophies, cups and historic balls and mallets from the glory days. The double height space boasts a unique installation too – suspended from the ceiling is a classic […]

Alto Opens

There is simply no let-up in the number of hot new London venues springing up in place of their now retired predecessors. The latest is named Alto, which takes the former site of Umbaba. A stylish premise of Art Nouveau inspiration and elegant decadence, the venue will be opening this June for late evenings, and from September will be opening earlier, offering live jazz and a cool, relaxing atmosphere. Located on Ganton Street, the 500 capacity lounge and nightclub will be reminiscent of a "Grand Palais" drawing room, split into various areas inspired by celebrated artists and designers of the […]

What lies beneath …

Bermondsey’s Fashion & Textile Museum has just launched it’s brand new exhibiton: Undercover – The Evolution of Underwear. The exhibition tracks the progress of our smalls from the first ever patented bra designed by Mme Gaches-Sarraute in 1915 right through the ages, taking in the bandeau garments worn by 1920s flappers, the Lana Turner 'sweater girl' trend of the 30s, the bullet bras worn by 1950s Hollywood starlets and, of course, the 90s Wondabra with all it’s “Hello boys” connotations. There’s a section dedicated to modern day versions as well with covetous creations by La Perla, celebrity endorsed ranges by […]

Molton House

In my lounge lizard experience, nightclubs rarely produce anything particularly memorable for the taste buds. Indeed, their food has long had a reputation for being down right bad – overpriced and often bland; Annabel’s and Tramp perhaps proving the major exceptions to the rule with superb menus overseen by old-school maitre d’s. Dinner at Molton House therefore not only turned out to be an extremely pleasant surprise, but also the precise reverse of my expectations. In spite of torrential rain conditions outside, the evening got off to a good start with my friend and I being met warmly at the […]

Anyone for Tennis ?

Ghost Bar

Here’s some news to get London’s club scene buzzing. The opening of another late night bar in Farringdon this spring has been announced. The bar in question is called Ghost and will share the graffiti chic theme of its counterpart in South Kensington but it has been reported will have a ‘more urban and edgier feel’ as it is located in the heart of the trendy East End.
