Brrrrrrrr, right? Our ancestors were out battling wooly mammoths in worse conditions than this, and yet here we are, cowering under a duvet and clutching a hot water bottle. But taking a leaf out of our caveman predecessors’ book (or thumb painting or whatever the correct analogy would be), what we really crave right now is ‘man’s red fire’. So unleash your inner neanderthal and head to one of these restaurants with open fires, though full disclosure: we can’t guarantee they’ll be serving mammoth…
Bluebird; it’s synonymous with the Kings Road, entertaining those in MiC and being one of London’s iconic restaurants. 2016 saw it undergo an extensive refurbishment and emerge with a refreshed menu, 2017 they announced that they would be opening their second restaurant in White City and now in 2018, that restaurant is opening. Opening at the Television Centre, the restaurant will spread out onto a piazza overlooked by the centre’s famous circular core, making Bluebird at the heart of the £8billion regeneration. Designed by David d’Almada’s Sagrada the interior brings together British styling from the 1960s and the chic Chelsea […]
This week, two London giants have made big vegan announcements. Two big announcements about doughnuts and burgers…two of our, and now everyone’s, favourite things. First up, doughnut connoisseurs, Crosstown has announced that at the end of March they’ll be opening their first all-vegan doughnut and coffee bar on Picton Place in Marylebone. In the run up to the opening, they’ll be launching two brand new flavours as a sneak peek of what’s to come. From Friday 9th – Sunday 11th March you can try the vegan tropical compote, with a pineapple glaze and coconut chips and Friday 16th – Sunday […]
Well if we thought spring was around the corner then February has proved that we are definitely some way off. If you’ve spent the month not leaving the house in fear of frostbite, then here at The Handbook we’re going to change that and entice you out of your caves. Along with freezing temperatures, this month there have been many new restaurants and bars opening and here is our selection of the top must visits.
After the success of last month’s ‘Critics’ choices’ article we decided that we’d do a roundup of February too! So here is everywhere that the team visited, and reviewed, over the last month. Darcie and May Green Peter Blake, the famous painter, has designed two brightly decorated barges and Daisy Green has lashed them together and created a floating restaurant which Charlotte went to review and was impressed by the antipodean menu. No kangaroo here as Charlotte’s strictly veggie so she gourged on halloumi fries and vegan curry and gave it a casual thumbs up. Check out the full review here… Theo […]
Everyone knows that when it comes to gravity defying acrobatics, jaw-dropping stunts and edge of your seat performances then Cirque du Soleil is at the top of their game. Their latest show OVO is a riot of energy with crazy crickets, amazing ants and flexible fleas and even features a 14m high flying trapeze act, which is the biggest of its kind. You’ve got to be quick if you haven’t seen it yet, as it’s only hanging about until this Sunday (4th March) so really you have to be super quick. Whilst you’re there you can raise a glass of […]
What? Hamilton, it’s the most talked about musical to hit the West End since the Book of Mormon and right now the hottest ticket in town. I didn’t get tickets, the self-defeatist in me came out and I didn’t even try to go get them (that coupled with the fact that I completely forgot), what I did get though was the chance to go to The Lanesborough for the new Hamilton inspired afternoon tea – the Alexander Hamilton Tea. New? Yes, having launched at the start of the year, it’s a chance for those who got tickets to have a […]
Wandsworth: home to The Handbook HQ, but more importantly (and there aren’t many things that are more important than us), home to a new gin festival from the guys at The Gin Society. Taking place on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th March, there’ll be over 120 different gins from all around the world to try, including a wide range of new craft fruit gins, sloe gin and prosecco fizz. Over at the Guest Bar, you’ll be able to learn facts (and fibs) about how Londoners became obsessed with gin during the gin craze as well as trying new and more […]
Let’s start Tuesday with a fact, Hām is the Old English word for home. It’s also the name of the new West Hampstead neighbourhood restaurant opening next month by friends Rose Tuckey and David Houten. Head Chef Matt Osborne, (Toasted, The Ledbury, Terroirs, The Other Naughty Piglets and Salon) will be cooking up a menu that champions produce from small British famers and artisan suppliers, as well as reflecting his Australian background. Open for brunch, lunch and dinner, dishes will include crumpets with honeycomb, Westcomb ricotta and pear and Bircher muesli, almonds with Hurdlebrook yoghurt and rhubarb; whilst in the […]
What? Think Scottish food and you most likely think of haggis, battered Mars Bar, Irn Bru and tatties, but just as we know that there is more to English food than fish and chips and sausage and mash; Mac & Wild, is a Scottish restaurant that will take you on a journey to the Scottish highlands via the finest wild venison, game and seafood. New? Nope, the first Mac & Wild opened in the autumn of 2016, it was soon followed by a pop-up in Devonshire Square, that went permanent last year. Where? The original Mac & Wild can be […]
